UNC vs. Chadron State

Bears Radio, I do see your point about liability, but it would seem that if the NCAA is vague about their rules, then we should be able to do what we need until they say otherwise. I'm not saying that you made that statement, but if there is wiggle room around the rules...then for God's sake wiggle. I can see how the Athletic Department couldn't let everyone that wanted to be on the side line, on the sideline. That would be chaos. But I think that they should be able to make decisions that benefit both the school, and the supporters. Again, it just seems that this is not the time to be alienating people that want to support the Bears.

I think the coaching staff tried the "wiggle room" last year (with the practice stuff) and it backfired on them. Just because the AD is being conservative with some of the things they're doing doesn't mean they're trying to alienate anyone.

I know you're not the only one saying this about the AD alienating people but I'll use you as an example. I think this is BS. Some of you think the athletic department is alienating people? I'll use a few examples that they are not. What about the bbq after the spring game? What about the fall sports kick-off bbq that drew a record number of people? What about the bear cubs football clinic that is put on by the players and coaches. They also did a player meet and greet after one of the scrimmages. There is two examples of things the other administration and coaching staff did not do. My wife is a teacher at an elementary school and the players came out to the school and signed the kids' flag football jerseys and some stayed to read some books witht the kids. Both the players and kids loved it! After a couple basketball games last season the team took some time after the game and they ALL signed posters for the kids. My nephew loved it! I don't remember Fallis ever doing stuff like that. Man...sounds like this administration sure likes to alienate people. Give me a break people.
Now mr. photographer I am sorry they won't let you take pictures down on the field or whatever the issue is because you may or may not be violating NCAA rules but to say this athletic department is alienating people is really far fetched. I am not saying they're perfect but I think I've given some examples of how they're doing the exact opposite. Say what you want about Hinrichs and Downing but I know Kay Dalton and Jim Fallis did NOT do things lik the Bear Cub football camp or the meet and greet with the players. Hell, Dalton never even had high school camps. Geesshh.

Just thought I would clarify a few things here for ya beardown. We did go to elementary schools to read to the kids back when Coach Dalton was the HC and Stugart was the DC. I remember it was a weekly thing and Coach Stugart would go around and ask 15 or so players to go to three different schools. We also would go to Rodarte (sp) center and play flag football, eat pizza with the kids and sign autographs. I am not saying that what they are doing to reach to the community is not great, just saying that we did stuff like that as well when i was there.

I know that and maybe I should have been more clear. The current players and coaches do those things you did plus the Bear Cub clinic and the meet and greet players.

Your loyalty to this administration is admirable. I have to disagree with you once again though as I definitely fall on the alienation side of the table here. I know many, many former boosters and athletes and to a person they are all of the same mindset with this admin. Short of some evidence that either contributions or attendance figures are rising, I will go with the prevailing assumption of alienation.

I have checked and there is no NCAA regulation governing who UNC isssues press passes to. They can give them to whoever they want. The only thing that the NCAA regulates is press acess at events like championships and playoff games, however the host schools are still allowed to issue press credentials to reporters that they want to cover the game. Furthermore the NCAA specificaly allows internet sites to get press passes to championships, though they are at the bottom of the pecking order.

UNC is hiding behind a rule that does not exist. They simply want to act like they are a big time school like say CU, and are flooded with requests for sideline access.

I also have a feeling that there is no real liabiltiy issue, Colorado law protects sports operators in the even a spectator gets hurt from "the inherent dangers of watching a sport". Additionaly UNC has like a bigillion dollars in liability insurance, and how is the photographer from uncbearssports.com any different that a photographer from the trib? They obviously dont have a problem letting the later on to the sidelines.

"how is the photographer from uncbearssports.com any different that a photographer from the trib?"

We could debate that until the cows come home, but the basic argument would be that the Trib is an established media outlet. uncbearssports.com is not.

I'm not saying its right, I'm not saying its wrong. I'm just sayin'...

One difference is that if you want a picture from the Trib it will cost you starting at $15 and up. Anybody was welcome to grab any pictures off the UNCBearsSports.com website at anytime, so I would assume money had something to do with it. Just another way of reaching out to the fan base.

I understand you there, and I obviously take the 'wrong' side of it. :D
