My daughter stated she saw where Vernon Adams stated OU offered him a Scholarship. He didn't say if he accepted or not, came via her Face Book. Maybe something else could come later. Vic Wallace

Vernon is gone... I believe he already told the staff he doesn't want to play here anymore. Bummer.

That said, the staff is really high on Hennessy and think he's better at this stage than Vernon was.... Give him some time during Spring ball to become the "man" and we should have another outstanding QB.

Agreed. I've heard there's been a pretty significant falling out over this entire ordeal.

I dont think Oregon will change their offense and I understand Vernon is more of a scrambler then a runner but Oregon has so many guys at the skill positions they just need someone who can buy a little extra time and not turn the ball over a bunch. I'm not sure VA is the perfect fit for Oregon but he is definately better then anyone they currently have on the roster.

Could you clarify what falling out means in this sitsituation?

LDopaPDX,
We must have met some where along the way at EWU. I started at EWU Oct 1974, retired Aug 31st, 1995. Will be retired from there 20 years in August 31st. For Basketball, Women and Men, I am at all the games. I sit in the newly installed Seats. Section LD (meaning, Long and Dark     . Look me up if you feel like it. I didn't realize Vernon had told the Coaches he didn't want to play for us anymore. He may regret those words, but I still back him for his decision he must make. Don't want to sound angry at him, I am sure he knows who got him started here at EWU. We can live w/o Vernon, we have made it many years before him and others. Good Luck, Vernon. Go Eagles!!!!!Vic Wallace

What happens to good teams when they lose a "superstar"? Everyone starts making plays. This team already plays at a high level, with some very good leaders coming back on offense and enthusiasm on defense.

Looking forward to the changes on staff and in the locker room will have. The young guys were a breath of fresh air with their bravado this season and those who actually redshirted look very capable to me. Unprecedented depth and talent. Eags would make a good FBS team with Coach B at the helm right now. Should be a challenging and exciting year!

Where do I sign up for the "homer of the year" contest?

completely agree. Im tired of all this drama already and looking forward to spring ball. for people thinking this transfer business is the end of the world think again. this team is loaded with a lot of returning talent. I am very optimistic with the changes made on D and we have playmakers all over the field on offense. anyone who thinks adams put up those kind of numbers all by his lonesome are mistaken! if for nothing else this added adversity is going to make our team even more hungry and determined in the off season. i would expect that there's going to be a little more motivation now for the opener as well. Go Eags!

This is a great point and we have already seen how this team can respond in that type of situation when we went 3-1 during the period of time Vern was out. Even with a QB who had virtually no real game experience we still found ways to win.

Trying to be optimistic but VA is as good as gone. Barring UO violating NCAA rules, VA had to reach out himself and current relationships between him and the coaches cannot have been affected when he asked to be released from his scholarship. Don't blame him one bit given the bigger stage and his looming career. If he graduates with his degree then good for him and that's what he signed his LOI for. He has been a fantastic ambassador for the program.

To me the more important part is the fact Baldwin is around another year to develop our next QB. Could you imagine trying to find a new QB and Head Coach in the same season? That is a path that can blow up a program quicker than anything else. At least this saga is happening prior to spring ball. It has been a great decade of Eagle football and I give credit to Baldwin for mixing it up on the defensive side. We will be okay, whatever VA decides.

Any more insight on this? I know us aren't privy to even a fraction of what goes on behind closed doors but I would be interested to know if he told Baldwin he doesn't want to play for him before or after the Oregon rumors started. I know the football banquet was very recent and that he attended. What could have happened between December and now that would have created such a deep rift that a player wouldn't want to play for Beau Baldwin, who is widely regarded as the quintessential "player's coach"? It is just a strange, puzzling sequence of events.

I suppose there's always a chance he completely hates UO and realizes Eastern is a good place for him, but he's got a release now, so the staff is preparing for a new QB.

Did you guys read the email Dave Cook sent out today? Check your inboxes... I'm sure it was a blast email to all donors. I deleted it after reading, but he indicated - and this was the language to the best of my recollection- that Eastern was allowing the player (they don't identify him in the email) to explore options at another university while still attending Eastern. In other words, Eastern is complicit here by not asking for a decision to be made.

Interesting, Vernon couldn't leave Eastern--- even if he wants to--- until the Summer. He must finish classes in order to waive the transfer period. He couldn't play Spring ball at Oregon, and would likely at least have to pay one semester at Eastern as - I'm sure- Eastern would have to rescind his schollie to open up an opportunity for another player. None of that is particularly huge in the whole scheme of things...

I like Vernon Adams a lot; he seems like a good guy. It's not an issue of me wanting to trap him at Eastern if he doesn't like playing for Baldwin and wants off the team. I just see this as a fundamental fairness issue that will have major negative ramifications for anyone not among the top-half of BCS institutions who suddenly have all of the redshirt seniors available on the open market.

I got the email as well and some of the verbiage in it was very telling to me, particularly this passage:
“Given the current transfer rules that are in place and the desires of other institutions to utilize them to their advantage, we will continue to try and do what is in the best interests for our student-athletes, knowing that their education is our primary role.”

I am not impressed at some of these comments and if I were 18 year old kid about to send a University my NLI I may change my mind.

Its our job as fans to support the Eagles and student athletes not judge them for one of the biggest decisions of their young life.

At the end of the day I will pray for VA and his family that what ever he decides its for the right reason.

The last time I checked a fan forum is a place to share and debate opinions. You don't have to agree with all of them but that doesn't mean that they're not valid. And btw, if you think potential recruits are influenced by what some people say on a message board or that anyone on here is speaking for an entire program you're not really that well grounded in reality.

We have elite skill players for this level. I read an article recently where Nigel Burton (former PSU coach) was commenting on our WR's and how they were on par with any Pac-12 team he ever faced when he was coaching there. I believe we have the best receivers in the country at this level and what we really need is a QB who is going to be efficient and get our play makers the ball in space and let them make plays. VA's a one of a kind talent, but let's be honest - he had a ton of help from players like Kaufman, Herd, Clark, Kupp, Bourne, and all the rest. That's one component I think the national media is missing in their analysis of this whole thing. The other component is Eastern's Offensive System and coaching staff which has produced so many great players. That system has been lighting up the scoreboard for a long time.

Good luck to VA and I'll be a Duck fan for a year. Been a great three years and he's a big reason why.

EWU was good before and it will continue as long as BB is the HC and the alumni continue to donate $$.

This will be settled in no longer than a week or two.

Also, VA has quite a bit of academic work to do to meet all the requirements of the leaving scenario.

I still think the best situation for him is easily playing for the Eagles.

I heard this from someone else today. If in fact the rift is between Coach Baldwin and Adams, I would be floored.

I played for two head coaches at Eastern. When Coach Baldwin came back I realized how great of a coach he is. I can't imagine anyone not wanting to play for him.

I think we are in for a great competition between West and Hennessey to see who will lead the team into the next era.

Every thing is looking up for the program. It's a great day to be an Eagle!

Sorry, but I'm not buying into all this "he's already gone" talk. Although it may look grim at this point, nothing I've heard on here means much at this point. EWU had to grant a release in order for VA to visit Eugene. That doesn't mean it's done and over with. To me, there is still a whole lot of reasons to stay at EWU. If he doesn't, the Eags will be fine and it'll be next man up!

For what it's worth, I will not root for Oregon under any circumstance, with or without VA. Having them pilch our QB will only build more distaste.

It is my understanding that a team can not talk to a player until he has a release in hand from his current team. If that is true, Eastern admin would have had to agree to Vernon "shopping around". In an earlier article Vernon said he had not heard from them. I would be curious to know when was the release requested and granted and when was the first contact with Oregon or its "mule" behind the scenes.
Smells rotten. I hope the NCAA does some investigating. If VA goes and the NCAA finds improprieties would he lose his last year of eligibility and Oregon forfeit any games he played in?
