'08-'09 RECRUITING CLASS

The kid from SLCC that WSU has been looking at will probably be going on a mission right after this season.

That is great. He should go on a mission, best thing in the world to do. So I figure that there will be 5 spots for next years team. Three of them are already gone, thats if Nick Thompson is still coming to Weber, since he isn't playing basketball at Clearfield anymore, but who knows maybe it's a really bad situation and he will still excel here at Weber. Anyway, I'm think 2-3 more players are coming in. Maybe three JC's or another high school player. Who knows? All I know is that Weber needs a post player who can rebound.

Maybe Coach Rahe called him and told him the reality of what would happen if he didn't keep playing. I really think he is going to be good. He just needs a coach like Rahe to shape him a bit and help him understand and recognize his potential. I've seen him play. He is definitely a stone in the rough, but I'm sure he will grow under the tutelage of Coach Rahe. Whoever, we get for next season they will be hardworking and determined players. That is what I really like about Rahe's recruits.

I'm worried that Weber wont get anyone who will be able to replace Art. I'm thinking Mahoney and Bullinger will both be great additions to next years team. Mahoney was the Utah State shot blocker his senior year and Bullinger was the state leader in points scored in Wyoming. Also, I really think that Drew Arnold will be able to contribute next season. However, Weber needs big men who can score and rebound. They don't necessarily have to be tall... Andy Smith and Andy Jensen were both 6'8." For our ISU friends Henry wasn't very tall and he dominated Lance Allred. However, Panos and Morris have both come a long way, but still have a long way to go. Panos needs to become more mobile and play better defense. Morris, he needs to become more aggressive. Oh Nick Thompson scored a game high 18 points last night against Weber.

I heard from a girl I know that goes to Clearfield High that Thompson is really lazy in school...and if he doesn't feel like doing an assignment or something he'll just tell the teachers that the basketball team will be nothing without him so they better give him the grades to play. I sure hope coach Rahe and the rest of the staff can whip this kid into shape, because we could definitely use his height.

I know that coach will NOT put up with that attitude! He will be asked to leave the team if he doesn't do his school work, go to class, and be a team player. There is more than one person who has been asked to leave because of that type of attitude.

Lets give him a chance at Weber. However, if his attitude continues to be like that Rahe will kick him into shape or he wont play.

That is a lot of hearsay, let's give the kid a chance before we label him as lazy. I don't know of too many teachers that would even consider giving him a break. When I played high school football I never got any perks. I also wasn't any good... or 6-10 ;)

True, I was just passing along some info because it seems like some of you guys (along with me) are kind of on the fence with this kid. Let's hope he'll be a good student as well as a beast in the post for the Cats.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Nick had to sit out a few games because of grades. He was ineligible. He has some work to do to get eligible for college, but coach thinks that he will make it. Coach is concerned.

Yes that does suck considering how much easier and what a joke high school is as far as academics. Let's just hope he was getting lazy for a short spell.

The last thing we need is another Jamal Jenkins...

I ahte to say that I told you guys this, but I warrned you all about Nick long befor this last problem. I know many students, and parents that know Nick and his family. He is a Lazy kid. He is out of control. The rumor around football season was that Nick's parents got so upset at how lazy he was that they sat down with Coach Plume, and said we do not know what else to do. Nick's parents are good people. His mother is a Educator, and his father is in the Military. But if that rumor is true, and I hope that it is not, it says a lot about what type of kid he is. That is enough on the bad, now lets look at the good on this kid.
He had to sit a couple of games this season already, and was able to fight his ws back on to the court. He is averagering fair numbers, even if they are inconsistant. I hope that he had the hell scared out of him, and that he is now willing to get his stuf figuered out.

I talked to some of the coaches today, and they are not worried about him being eligible to play college ball.

Weber is looking to sign 2 guards and one "big". The "big" guys they are looking at are 6'4" to 6'6" on tall end.

Phew, that's a relief. We can definitely use all of the bigs we can get. Getting a guy 6'9" or taller in a mid-major conference is definitely a plus. Hopefully this Thompson kid will end up being a stud for us.

Lillard averaging 23 PPG on 75% shooting. Also 4.7 RPG, 2.4 APG, 1.4 SPG. He's shooting 42% from beyond the arc and 81% from the charity stripe. I can't wait to see what this kid can do.
