2015-16 Schedule

From what I can gather, the Cats will only have 1 home OOC DI game next Fall. I'm sure we will see another DI road money game on our schedule, but all of our home games will probably end up being DII/III NAIA...Ugh! I wish the Sky could put something together with another league. A type of challenge with the Summit, WCC, BIg West, or Sun Belt.

Well whats the point of getting season tickets? Your essentially getting shorted 3, 4, or even 5 games with the exhibitions and DII/DIII schools we beat by 50. Might as well just save the money and buy tickets for USU & BYU games or ask Ron Goch for free tickets :dead:

We really havent had solid DI schools play at the Dee since the Bracket Buster & the CIT tournament. I know the CIT wasnt that great of a postseason tournament but it got some good schools into the Dee for the home fans to watch.

I feel ya. Between all of the worthless games and the free tickets, it's getting harder and harder to justify buying season tickets. I've already stopped buying season football tickets. I attended every game last season and didn't pay for a single ticket. I realize that part of buying tickets is providing financial support for athletics, but I'm not in a position to buy tickets when free ones are offered all the time.

...and throw in no chance to host an event that I want to spend more $$$ on ... :dead: I'm down for FB tix but I'll be looking for freebies for BB or just watching it on-line. After 25+ years of season BB tix, I'm afraid it's over. Maybe some folks in the Reno area would be interested in my seats?

I agree with most of the above posts. I have been extremely disappointed in the lack of accountability. From Randy's excuses to the AD and Prez not standing up to the conference and voting no on the tournament change. It has been a disappointing time to be a wildcat basketball fan. Add in the fact that student government doesn't give two craps about basketball. You can't even follow Wildcat sports in the local paper because the beat writer is so far up the coaches colon that you have a better chance of getting a cancer report than a balanced story about the team.

Holy Shiz!

Everyone is beotching about something they haven't even seen yet. I agree that the OOC home schedule has been poor lately. It might be a reason to complain to the AD or to Randy, but not to stop supporting the team or enjoying what games we do have. Please take your complaints to where they might do some good. You have valid complaints and they should be heard. Also, be part of the solution and not part of the problem. There really are only those two options. Change is most likely to come from the inside.

If you love something, tearing it down is not the proper way to show it. Attend meetings, express your concerns, make suggestions, and start the process of making things better. There is nothing stopping you from doing that. In fact, if you don't do any of that, you are just supporting the status quo, or worse yet, supporting things getting worse in the future.

Please trust me when I say this, I have learned from a lot of experience, you have more power than you think. You just need the guts to get involved. :thumb: :thumb:

I understand the frustration...in fact, I share a great deal of that frustration with most of the members on this forum. Yes, I want to see a far better home OOC schedule. Fact of the matter, nobody really wants to come to Ogden to play Weber. And here is why...

1. A good mid-major or any mid-major is borderline obsessed with RPI. Playing Weber doesn't really help an opposing teams RPI, especially if there is a high chance of being beaten by the Wildcats. A mid-major wants to reap some type of benefit from its travels. Either an RPI boast or a pay day. Weber's OOC RPI average have been in the mid 150s on average over the past decade. Yes, we have had good years where the Cats have ended up being in the top 100 but that is usually at the end of the season, not at the start.

2. Weber plays in the Big Sky Conference, the bigger the conference gets the worse our conference RPI is. Visiting a Big Sky School isn't something that a lot of teams want to do, because it affects not only its own RPI, but also, its conference RPI. It is alright for a Big Sky team to visit their courts, because they have a great chance of beating the visiting program.

3. Weber can't buy any guarantee games and those games we could buy, if we had the money, would be low-major DI teams; Sub 250s/275 RPI teams. How does that really help us? After playing ISU last year, and beating them soundly in Poky, our RPI went higher, not lower.

4. Weber has a great winning percentage in Ogden and playing at the Purple Palace is daunting. We can't complain about travel and distance. We are close to a major airport and there are plenty of hotel rooms in the Greater Ogden Area.

There really aren't any benefits to playing Weber State in Ogden. When the Big Sky Conference had a better reputation and stronger RPI, more teams would have agreed to make the trip. But now, with how bad our overall RPI was last year, and the travesty that is the Big Sky Conference RPI really doesn't make playing Weber in Ogden a very appetizing venture. Finally, Weber has NO money to pay teams to come to Ogden. That about sums it up. Without the Bracket Buster or a conference challenge of sorts Weber's DI schedule will continue to suffer.

I agree no one is dumb enough to come here. It just doesnt make sense. The problem is now BYU has pulled the plug and now we only play them in SLC. Next USU doesnt see the point in making the trip now that Stew is gone.

I think we need to take a Long Beach State approach and play any big name teams that will host us. I recall Montana having a solid OOC schedule with a game at Kansas? Eastern beats Indiana at their place last year. I dont know how RPI is affected but I would hope that we would get some boost from playing larger basketball programs.
Maybe not tho? Thoughts?

I hear ya! :thumb:

The issue, for me, at least, isn't necessarily our road schedule, but our home schedule. The Cats did play Oklahoma last year and had a really nice tournament with three games. This year, I'm sure we will see another guarantee $$$ game against a major team, and another really great Mid-Major Tournament in Florida. I really like the Portland game, but am a bit weirded out by the fact that Weber isn't playing OSU that same weekend. As for the instate...Duryea and Rahe are best friends. I'm hopefully the home and home will continue between the two schools. As for BYU...there is a three year contract that will be renewed that stipulates that Weber and the Y will be playing year 1 at the ESA, year 2 Provo, and year 3 in Ogden. I just want to see more DI teams in Ogden. Plenty of teams want to see Weber at their place. I'm wondering if Rahe isn't willing to do 2 for 1's with some teams.

I'm sure that Randy would consider a 2 for 1 with Utah or another geographically close PAC12 school. However, any of the other western conferences would need to be home and home. If a bigger school wants to give us a lot of money for a game, we will take it, but that doesn't help our home schedule at all. There are schools just below our level who would love a home and home with us. However, we are not keen on those games for the same reasons that PAC12 schools don't want to go on the road to play us. As a result we end up with inferior teams coming to the Dee for a money game and sure loss.

Unless the rules of the system change, scheduling is always going to be a problem. :coffee:

GREAT Schedule again.

3 QUALITY games. Season tickets are a must! :wall:

Hoping to have one more good D1 road game plus the tourney. Honestly wouldnt be that bad. Just wish we could cut out these dumb beat up games and go on the road against a quality opponent because we know they fear the Dee (and nothing in it for them coming here).

Hmmm...well, at least one of those games is an exhibition. From what we know...

Home games: Utah State, Pacific Union College, and Multnomah (whatever that is). = 1Home DI, 2Home Beats
Road games: Portland; = 1Road DI
Neutral: 3 in Florida and BYU @ESA; = 4 Neutral

The past seasons:
14/15: 3Home DI, 2Home Beat, 3 Road DI games, 3 Neutral = 11 OOC
13/14: 2Home DI, 2Home Beat, 5 Road DI games = 9 OOC (20 game Big Sky)
12/13: 3Home DI, 1Home Beat, 4 Road DI games (Bracket Buster @ Oral Roberts) = 8 OOC (20 game Big Sky)
11/12: 4Home DI, 2Home Beat, 4 Road DI games (Bracket Buster @ Dee vs. UTA), 1 Neutral = 11 OOC
10/11: 2Home DI, 2Home Beat, 6 Road DI games (Bracket Buster @ SJSU; St. Marys to end season), 2 Neutral = 12 OOC

So...since Weber isn't playing a 20 game conference schedule and only an 18 game conference schedule, I'm guessing the Cats will have 2, possibly 3, more games on its OOC schedule. Well, that depends if the tournament only counts as 1 game (the weird tournament rule) or more.

I'm going out on a limb here, but I'm guessing that Weber will get 1 more Home DI game and will probably play 1 or 2 road money games. Of course, I would like to see 2 more Home DI games, but...

Did we just raise the bar to three patsies in the regular season
University of Antelope Valley :ohno:
Pacific Union College
Multnomah

I like the home and home with South Dakota State
I like the road game at Denver and I sure as hell hope they are coming here next year.

Did we trade our money game for a D3 patsie? The schedule isn't going to give us a great RPI, but I only see one really difficult game being BYU at Energy Solutions.

Antelope Valley? Pacific Union? Multnomah? Now I think they're just making stuff up. Those aren't real schools, are they? I would gladly trade those three home games for three road games vs any D1 schools, or two more conference games.

The three NAIA teams we will be playing look horrific. Antelope is a first year at that level team, and had thrown together a bunch of low level JC guys. They have some size and some smaller athletes. They could e compete well for about 5 to 10 minutes. Multnomah's tallest players look to be about 6'5''. They won't compete at all. Pacific Union has some length and may compete for a short time as well.

All in all, not too good.

On the positive side, next years schedule should be better. :coffee:

I can't really complain about this schedule. Sure, we don't have a big game like Oklahoma last year, but I like the idea of playing a solid team like South Dakota State twice. This way we get to see a good team at home and we actually have a good chance to win unlike in a bigger game. Should be great preparation for conference play.

Excluding the repeat games and tournament games we get 4 D1 games- 1 at home like last year and 3 away. Using last year's RPI, the teams from last year- Oklahoma 20, Oral Roberts 156, Arlington 180, and this year South Dakota ST 84, SD State again 84, Portland 166, Denver 234.

Then we have the Utah State, Utah Valley, and BYU games plus a 3 game tournament with similar talent to last year's tournament. That's 10 D1 games OOC.
