2015-16 Schedule

You are right Wildcat11. This schedule contains some of the things everyone has been begging for. The only exception is the three patsies. SDS is a great series. Denver and Portland are also good home and home contracts. The thing with BYU is good only if the ESA is included in our season ticks. Otherwise it is just another home game for BYU and that would suck. I still haven't heard anything on that yet. :coffee:

Did we just raise the bar to three patsies in the regular season
University of Antelope Valley :ohno:
Pacific Union College
Multnomah

I like the home and home with South Dakota State
I like the road game at Denver and I sure as hell hope they are coming here next year.

Did we trade our money game for a D3 patsie? The schedule isn't going to give us a great RPI, but I only see one really difficult game being BYU at Energy Solutions.

BYU won't be only difficult game for us. We have the worst 2014-15 RPI in the field at the Florida tourney; and Portland and SDSU were much better than us last year. SUU reminds us that anyone can beat us in the Dee if we can't take care of the ball, execute against a zone, and rebound.

Even coming off a bad season, I can't understand why anyone would be satisfied with 3 non D 1 teams. When you compare schedules to similarly situated teams, it becomes clear that three non-d1 teams was a choice. That is what is most disappointing and embarrassing to me. I stand by our coaches and administration, but they have to understand our confusion when they say they want to build a best in class program that draws top level talent and energizes the fan base; but then schedules these types of games. This scheduling approach emulates Idaho State more than Montana; Utah Valley more than Utah State; and low major more than mid major

This is a defacto road game, with BYU paying a guarantee. No tickets included.

“We always try to have a difficult and challenging preseason schedule and this year will be no exception,” Rahe said. “We are excited for another preseason tournament that will be against some very high quality mid-major teams. It will also be a great opportunity to play in two NBA arenas and to again play some quality opponents in state. All of this will be great preparation for the always difficult Big Sky Conference schedule.”

Sorry but Im not buying this load of crap! 3 schools less than D1 at home is a total waste. Actually its embarrassing! How do you even get up for a game like that as a player?

Yes we do have some good road games but our biggest game is still against BYU which happens every year. Maybe because we got beat by Oklahoma so bad last year we are bagging big road games??

A great opportunity to play in two NBA arenas? Who gives a sh!t!! Its a gym... We arent on a field trip to look at locker rooms and sit in the court side seats. Playing in an NBA arena doesnt strengthen our RPI..

Whatever.. at least I know I can get into the games for free. Guess we got that going for us :wall:

End Rant

I don't know what to say...Yes, this schedule has good points. I love the neutral court games against BYU, Portland (neither are really neutral courts), and the tournament, where we will get three DI games. That is 5 DI for the OOC. Then we get SDSU twice, which raises an eyebrow, but whatever. Denver and UVU on the road, and a home game against USU. That is 10 DI OOC games. Better than the last few years. What I don't like is the 3 cupcakes. I hate that! Why not use the money being spent on three patsies and use that to buy one guarantee DI game? And then play another guarantee road game against a DI Major?

Yeah, just more coach speak from Coach Rahe. I'd be much more understanding if he would just tell us how he really feels. He can't be happy scheduling four non-D1 games. Or, maybe he is (that is three wins to add to his win total). Just give us some substance, man. Tell us what they're doing or not doing to improve the schedule, especially the home schedule.

After last season every D1 game should be considered difficult. I could honestly see us losing every non-conference road/neutral game.

Every year we have a few games that you look at the schedule and say, "we don't really have a prayer in this one." This year the BYU game is the only one that jumps out to me that way. Plus it is at a neutral court which may increase our chances a little. You are right they are all difficult, but there is not an Oklahoma beat down on the schedule. At least I hope not.

“We always try to have a difficult and challenging preseason schedule and this year will be no exception,”
Southern Virginia, University of Antelope Valley, and Multnomah - headlining every major sporting news media, brutal!

"It will also be a great opportunity to play in two NBA arenas"
@BYU and @Portland - I couldn't be more excited, opportunities like these just don't come around often.

"All of this will be great preparation for the always difficult Big Sky Conference schedule.”
Just like last season? 60-70 & 56-65

"Beginning in 2016, the Big Sky Conference Tournament will be played in Reno, Nev., with all 12 conference teams advancing to the tournament,"
Hmmm....maybe "All of this ... great preparation" should be for the always difficult BSC Tournament since conference play means little now?

This is all so exciting, where's my checkbook?

Over the course of the past few seasons, Weber has averaged around 10 OOC games. Out of those 10 games, we have averaged playing 2 cupcakes (St. Katy's, Minot, Southwest University, our fav. Britsol), out of around 4 total home games. The other 2 being DI teams. I'm taking most of this information from the Rahe coaching era.

This season, Weber has 13 OOC games, 3 above the normal Rahe era; 10 of which are DI competition. Two home DI games against Utah State (which is always a fun game as long as we don't give up 18pt leads) and a very good South Dakota State program. Out of the other 8, there are only 3 true road games @Denver, @South Dakota, and @UVU, all winnable games. The other games are all neutral court games. Out of all the years to play BYU on a neutral court, when the game was originally suppose to be played in Provo (automatic loss for the Wildcats), this might be the best chance to steal one from the Cougars. Playing Portland in Portland doesn't seem like a true neutral game contest, but Weber did beat Portland at their place the last time they met. Highlighting the schedule is a great tournament in Florida where Weber can play some other top Mid-Major programs and really get some great wins to help its RPI.

YES!! Playing Butt Ef mutes is crap. I hate it, but most DI teams do it. Utah State has 2 on their schedule, Fresno State has 2, Air Force has 2, Sac has 2. Most teams that have released their full schedules has at least 1 below DI school on its schedule. My question is, why pay for three? Why not take the money for two and pay for a low major program like Chicago State or Jackson State to come to Ogden? It might be low major program, but it is better than Multanomah University or whatever it is called.

What I like about the schedule is that the conference part of it is very balanced. 3 home games, followed by 3 road games; then 2 and 2 and so on.
As far as the games in NBA gyms, while it might not matter to us as fans, it matters to the players.
I'm looking forward to the home and home with S Dakota St. Will be an interesting way to gauge improvement from mid Nov to mid Dec.
Lastly the placement of the non-D1 games is interesting. The first is right before the team leaves for the tourney in Florida - and after playing Utah St at home and SDSU on the road. The second is sandwiched in between the Florida tourney and the BYU game. And the last is 5 days before the conference schedule begins. Looks to me like each can be used effectively by the coaches.

Ill be honest. Im so bummed right now its not even funny. With this schedule whats the point in going to games? I understand supporting our school and athletes but realistically if every team gets into the tournament and we have no games at home besides USU and Montana whats the point? We dont have teams fighting to get into the tourney and the last week is mayhem, were all just going...1 seed doesnt get rewarded and gets to host which is the real bummer.
So save your money and get a hotel and even a plane flight to Reno when the games actually matter!

About the new "setup" of the conference tournament, I couldn't agree more. Fullerton really screwed the pooch on that one. Why change a system that wasn't broken? Utter and absolute insanity. The Sky is chasing a pie in the sky fantasy hoping that by doing what everyone else does then they will be as respected and rake in as much cash. Total lunacy drove that deal. IDIOTIC!

Having the conference champ awarded home court advantage and the tournament was a genius idea. It makes the conference season that much more exciting and important. By taking that away, there is really no need to win the conference or play hard consistently throughout the season. You just want to put yourself in a position to be playing your best ball the second week of March so that you can win the tournament title. The regular season champ wins nothing, except the top seed at a tournament played on a foreign court in a city hundreds of miles away from your home. If they had to change the format, then they should have gotten rid of the tournament completely and played 4 more conference games. Everyone gets everyone else twice home and away. Team with best record wins the conference and gets the right to represent the Sky at the Dance.

RENO = IDIOTIC IDEA.

I hope Doug allows us to ask questions next month when he speaks at the bookstore. As I look back at the last two conference tournaments. The biggest issue I see is not the format or travel. Officiating has been very poor in the tournament. I don't think it could have gotten much worse this last year. It effected both the mens and womens games. What is being done to correct the biggest problem?

I am not a fan of no tournament in the least bit, however, as an alternative to the pile of sh!t we now enjoy I'd take that format in a heartbeat!
:pissed: :wall: :crybaby:

We should play a true double round robin conference schedule. We could easily replace the three non-D1 teams with 4 conference games. This format would benefit every team in the Big Sky since everyone is having difficulty scheduling home-and-home games.

The regular season does have some meaning. First, the winner is the champion. Second, the first four teams will get a first round bye in the tournament. Third, our champion is assured of post season play, regardless of what happens in the tournament. Fourth, you want to win all of your games anyway.

The schedule is set, it's not changing. I think that everyone should let their feeling be known and maybe it will have an impact for next year..... Maybe not. :coffee:
