2015 Recruiting - 18 Verbals - Updated 2/3

I hope we are recruiting a really good QB that can run our offense, or have one waiting in the wings.

Can't say that I disagree. I hope K. Johnson is on board. He could have a shot to compete for the starting spot next fall if he's all he's cracked up to be. The coaching staff seems to have zero qualms about playing true Freshman if they're ready.

I think the staff is pretty jazzed on Reilly Hennessy.

To All,
Everyone is so concerned of VA Leaving. Should he leave EWU, I will be one to congratulate him. We have a team that will continue it winning ways, regardless who leaves. What I heard a couple of days ago, VA wasn't planning on leaving, that is his decision to make. Remember if you had been following VA trip to EWU, he had committed to Portland State, but changed his mind, when he did sign with EWU, he had his PSU shirt on at that time. He is still a young man, has a new son, I am sure he will make the best decision for his family and himself. We have 4 Quarter Backs presently waiting for their turn. #12, Reilly Hennessey 6'3" 215 lbs, #14, Jordan West, 6'4", 220 lbs, #16 Conner Richardson, 6'2", 215lbs (South Paw),he had a fake PAT, got a touch down   , and #19, Gage Gubrud, 6'2", 195lbs, and they all look Great. Who know, we may have a "Sleeper" announced on next week Wednesday at NLI Day at Quest. All we can do is hope for the best for EWU, and Vernon Adams :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: Lets us all hope for the best decision from VA. Go Eagles!!!!! Vic Wallace

Great point Vic! VA has done his part on and off the field- he doesn't owe anyone. Now he has graduated the NCAA rules allows him the opportunity to transfer and that option is 100% his. Great programs are bigger than single players and you're right, there is a solid QB core in the wings and competition will be fierce! it's time to hit the reset button and find our next great QB and I'm sure he's already on the team.

Coach Baldwin will be visiting QB Johnson this week. I feel very good about the 2015 class already, but if we land QB Johnson and/or WR B. Scott I think we have done an absolutely amazing job recruiting some of the best talent in the nation at several positions.

If we get all the players we have listed plus these two and it could be our most talented class ever.

G&P, do you think with the strong possibility that Adams may not be here next season that Johnson may favor EWU because of the opportunity to start playing his 1st season? If I were Baldwin and he is the real deal that conversation may take place.

I really don't think there is even a remote chance of VA leaving, but I do think from what I saw of Johnson's intrigue with VA when he visited that he'd actually consider it a huge bonus to play under such a great player with a similar skill set. Johnson clearly had a great time on his visit and all the recruits bonded noticeably well (take this from someone who has been on many trips in past years with players).
VA having such a great career here is nothing but helpful to Johnson's future as well.
More specific to your question: Because I don't think VA has even considered leaving, I doubt the conversation you asked about took place in terms of Johnson playing as a true frosh.

I understand what things look like with his trip to Oregon, but I have several reasons that I'll keep to myself for why I don't think he will transfer nor do I think it's a good situation for him. Keep in mind I have a few players in that program right now.

Obviously if I am wrong and VA does leave, Johnson would be a similar player to VA, with less experience and a stronger arm.

i think the trip to eugene is just a formality so I am really hoping Johnson signs with the eags on NLI day. He looks like an exciting player.

VA's transfer and Beau's extension have to seem intriguing for someone like Johnson, at this point.

Timing is great for Coach Baldwin's new deal. It could prove to be huge to WR B. Scott and QB K. Johnson coming our way.

We'll know soon enough!

Saw many of our Players today leaving Reece Court, they all seemed to think Vernon will leave, and others don't think he will. Vernon is a young 21-22 years of age, with a very young son. He has a very big decision to make in his life at present. What ever decision he makes, I will back him all the way. Can't be mad at him, he is still young man, and needs our support right now. We will miss him should he leave, so hope for his decision to be positive one. Just hope the Coach is not making promises he can't keep, like starting as a Transfer. Vernon we wish you well young man, we enjoyed you the time you spent with us. Good Luck, should you leave. Vic Wallace

did we get another verbal?

There are a few that gave verbals this weekend. Roy Hyatt out of Mt. Spokane was one of them. Held an offer from Wyoming. Trying to figure out who the others were.

EWU has several players on this list, with more to come on NLI day.

I also posted this in the "QB" thread, but QB prospect K. Johnson did NOT visit UCONN yesterday. Not sure who's got the edge on him now. Being actively recruited by UTEP, New Mexico, New Mexico St., and of course EWU. EWU staff visited him earlier this week for an in home talk.

Your link doesn't work, but I was able to find it on twitter. Thanks for the info. Really interested in knowing who the front runner is at this point.

Unbelievable... you look at UW and Oregon grabbing a lot of the top guys in Washington, which is typically considered a pretty good recruiting state. You see Air Force, Eastern, the Griz, and even Idaho State pulling a few from the next tier. You know who is conspicuously absent? Washington State. They don't have a single verbal from anyone from Washington. That has to be alarming. There are always 15-25 legit kids from the state who are capable of being quality BCS-level players, and WSU didn't snag a single one. I'm shocked.

I just took a look at the list and although I wasn't surprised at all to see how many players we had on it, I was completely shocked WSU didn't have a single one. I know Leach doesn't have strong recruiting ties to the area, but you'd expect that his staff would. If you're a Pac-12 school and not grabbing at least a couple red chips from your own state, you're probably not doing something right. Whatever they are doing I hope they continue it because it's good for us...go ahead and feel free to continue not recruiting Washington. :thumb:

Also not sure how legit these ratings are. I would have thought Keenan Williams would have been listed as a red chip, seeing as how he was a 3-star recruit on one of the big recruiting sites...can't remember which. Probably a function of playing in the Frontier League and not the GSL...notice Rypien from Shadle Park is a Blue Chip. I know he's good and all, but Blue Chip?

I think if we can wrap up K. Johnson and J. Williams (down to EWU and Montana) this will be an extremely strong recruiting class. One of the best in the past 5-10 years.

During the season the topic is generally about how bad the defense is and they better step up or else.
During recruiting season the subject is focused on offensive players and how they might contribute.
