2015 Recruits

Actually, I don't think there are any ways of getting around the 13 scholarship limit, unless it is with a walk-on. I don't think that any of these guys would be walk-ons. A missionary who would be leaving right out of high school would be a possibility. That is why I think we will only sign one, if any, this fall. I don't think we will sign someone just to fill a slot. It will have to be the right player, or why do it. Randy never plays more than 9 guys anyway. The 10th, 11th, and 12th guys will just ride the pine unless there is a ton of foul trouble. If we sign more than one this fall. other than missionaries, I will be shocked. Now, if someone is not working out or wants to transfer at the end of the season, then maybe we sign more in the spring. I don't think that you sign someone, just to cut someone you like later on. :twocents:

I know what you are saying Olds, but I'm not convinced. With how many players the coaching staff is recruiting I feel strongly that Weber will be adding at least 2 this Fall. I've been wrong before, but it just seems that way. Yet, I do agree that the whoever is added will be pretty dang good.

I also really liked him, and watched him play quite a few times in practice. He was a shooting touch away from being a D1 talent. He was athletic and played well within his skill level. He just struggled with his shot. I think he can be a star at a lower level. I hope he has a lot of success where ever he goes. McDonald was the exact opposite. He was a good shooter but lacked the athleticism to play at our level. I never saw Borkland play. He was always injured.

It has been profoundly quiet in the recruiting circles for the past few weeks. It must be a dead period for coaches to do any recruiting. I expect that there will be a lot more activity in September. We usually have a visitor or two right after school starts. I'm thinking that there could be someone on campus for the first home football game. That will be a good time to keep our eyes and ears open. :thumb:

I agree Olds. By now we usually have some sort of idea about those guys who might be coming on visits. In the next week or so, we should have a better and clearer idea of who the coaches are going to be bringing in for visits. Last year, the Cats were lucky and got early commitments from two of our top recruits right away. This year, as you have pointed out, the coaches are taking the process a bit slower. But, to get our top guys, the Cats don't want to draw out the process too long.

It doesn't take a genius to know this, but on paper, our top recruit has got to be Paul Thomas (http://espn.go.com/college-sports/basketball/recruiting/player/_/id/187240/paul-thomas" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; & a video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57u1mbpw2m8" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;).

I'd say our next top recruits are:
Malek Harwell
Roman Davis
Jalon Miller
Armani Collins
Jordan Dallas
Juwan Williams
and Riley Court (I think he is automatic mission, so he might get signed no matter).

It is going to be a really interesting recruiting period.

I'm thinking that the top priority is a combo big, a 4/5 player.

Second priority is a big wing, a 2/3 player.

Third priority would be the best player we can get.

Out of Thomas, Miller, and Dallas, I think we will take the first one that commits to us. If none of them commit, then I think we take the first commit from Collins, Harwell, or Davis. If none of them commit, although unlikely, then we are into that third priority. I don't think that it will come to the third choice, but you never know.

If Riley Court is a missionary, then he is outside of what I just said and would be signed if he commits. :twocents:

Weber HQ tweeted that Emmanuel Nzekwesi has WSU on his short list of visits, along with Tulsa and Duquesne.

More info: http://www.libertyflamesnation.com/2015-basketball-prospect-f-emmanuel-nzekwesi/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

In watching Emmanuel play, He looks like a bigger version of Johnson-Coston. He is a big bodied kid who could develop into a stretch power forward. He is not a high flyer. If he was, he would be rated much higher. He is a legit mid major prospect. I see him more as a 4 and less of a 3. I'm not sure how the coaches feel about it, but that is how I see it. :coffee:

I'm really interested in seeing who is coming to visit. We all know that Rahe likes to bring his top recruits in early to show them campus. Next weekend or the weekend of the first home football game would be the most likely times to see the recruits on visits to campus.

When does fall semester start? I don't think we would have any visitors until the students are back. I will be checking in with the coaches on Friday. Hopefully, there will be someone around to talk to. I agree with you Tal, I think that Randy has a fairly good idea of who we are going to get and will have them in early in the semester. If we have them in and we still want them, we usually ask for a commitment if we feel they are ready to commit. :coffee:

Amen to that Olds!!

Fall Semester starts on Monday. YIKES!! Where has the summer gone? :?

But, I'm pretty sure we will see a couple of our top recruits either next week for Block Party or the following week for the first football game. Or, most likely, both weekends.

Last year's walk-ons, Aziz Leeks and Christian McDonald have found homes. Christian ended up at a small school near his home town, where he can play and contribute. Leeks will be playing at Eastern Utah. If he can develop an outside shot, we will probably recruit him when he is done there. He is an outside shot away from being a D1 talent.

Not that it really matters, but Leeks signed with Snow College.

If he is that close why not keep him around as a walk on in hopes he gets there.

Keep an eye open tomorrow, if you are on campus. I've heard there will be recruits visiting.

That's the rumor. We will just have to wait and see. Could be a somewhat interesting three weeks.

Snow, Eastern..., I get them mixed up.

Ephrahm, Price, it's all the same to me.

Coaches wanted Leeks to get some playing time, develop, and be on scholarship. Plus, he is still close enough that we can keep an eye on him. He has a lot of potential. :thumb:
