2019 Big Sky Games

Week 5 brought the start of conference play, with 7 conference games and 1 non-conference game. Two pretty big upsets with UM going on the road and beating down UCD, and UI losing at previously winless UNC. This came one week after UI shocked EWU at home in a non-conference game. Hard to figure UI out. UM's win might make them the conference favorite at this point, especially considering they get EWU and WSU at home. MSU got down early to NAU but came back to win big. EWU handled UND at home, and ISU destroyed PSU. ISU winning wasn't a surprise necessarily, but winning by 27 was. PSU had looked improved this season, but maybe the conference better look out for ISU, who has looked pretty good the past two weeks. Also, CP outlasted SUU in Cedar. SUU looks to maybe be the bottom dweller of the conference. In non-conference play WSU beats a ranked UNI team from the MVFC. With one non-conference game left to play (ISU @ FBS BYU in Week 12), the conference goes 12-7 vs FCS on the season, is 0-18 vs FBS, and goes 7-0 vs Non-D1. The conference finishes 4-6 in the MVFC Challenge.

Out of Conference record through Week 5 (does not include conf vs conf teams playing non-conference games):
19-25 Overall (16-1 Home, 3-24 Road)
12-7 vs FCS (9-1 Home, 3-6 Road)
0-18 vs FBS (0-18 Road)
7-0 vs Non-D1 (7-0 Home)
4-6 vs FCS MVFC (2-1 Home, 2-5 Road)

Taking Cal Poly over the Bobcats in a slight upset. Tempted to take Sac St over EWU, but I am not a believer yet.

Yeah, those two games are going to be telling. I think the ISU/UM game is going to be interesting as well. Too bad it's at UM. :coffee:

Spread picks:

UCD (-4) over UND
UM (-7.5) over ISU
SUU (+9.5) over PSU
WSU (-7) over UI
NAU (-12.5) over UNC
MSU (-5) over CP
EWU (+2.5) over SAC

North Dakota pulls off the upset with a late 46 yard field goal. UC Davis got close to field goal position at the end but then somehow got a false start and delay of game.

UCD continues to bewilder.

After an 0-10 1st Q start, the Griz beat the tar out of ISU 59-10 the rest of the way! Oh my!

Took OT for MSU to win and looking like EWU will lose at Sac. Sac looks legit and stick a fork in EWU's season. Looking at the season, including what has happened today, and it is really hard winning on the road in this conference.

Surprisingly, I would think UCD's is done as well and would add the Montanas to the legit list. The Ms have pretty favorable schedules, especially MSU. The Ms and Weber all still to play Sac, it will be interesting to watch it play out. I hope Weber can rise to the challenge, I have a hard time believing they are the 4th best team in the country and wondering where they will end up in the top of the BSC when the dust settles.

Sac's problem is that they played three non-FCS games. Two FBS losses and a non-D1 win that won't count for anything. In a 12 game season, and starting the season unranked, they'll probably need to win at least six of their remaining seven games to get a playoff bid. I don't see that happening. Not when four of those games are road games and their home games are UM, Weber, and Davis.
