D1 Transfers

I'm pretty disappointed that McKay is leaving. We all best hope that Doc is as good as advertised, because we do not have another ball-handler as capable of running the offense and seeing the floor like Cannon. Cody John is not on the same level.

But, this does tell us all one thing. Someone else is coming in. My money is on a transfer big. Randy is retaining Jordan Dallas only for insurance. Is that ethical? No... When Randy talks about character and all, lets all remember that it is expected for the players but not the coaches. Dallas could leave this season and go to a JC, which would give him the best shot at getting another DI gig. We all know that he isn't going to play much in the future. He will be the 4th or 5th big this year and next year probably the 6th. He might get some cleanup mins but that is about all.

I think we royally screwed the pooch with Cannon and it started last off-season. I think we protein powder and weight roomed him out of the rotation. He was a totaslly different player with the extra 25 pounds of muscle on his frame. Cannon was our feisty junk yard dog that stepped up against Xaiver when Senglin went down. He just didn't have the same speed and fire with the extra weight. Let's hope we don't make a similar mistake with Harding.

I don't think we will make that mistake with Harding since it's basically written in stone that he's gonna start next year.

It needs to be noted that Cannon was one of the few guys who wasn't in town the vast majority of the Summer working with the strength and conditioning coaches... :twocents:

This is true and I feel it is a reason behind coach showing a strange amount of loyalty towards Cody John. John would make mistake after mistake and still play. McKay would make 1 mistake and get benched. By the end of the season McKay was playing far better and consistent than John. Fact of the matter, Randy ruined McKay. It is beyond disappointing that McKay is leaving. Randy is making a terrible mistake.

However, it is only fair to say that the decision to be done playing could be solely his and McKay might be ready just to move on to other things.

Basketball was not McKay's top priority last summer, and may not be now. Situations change. I love the young man and his family. They are all great people. I wish them all the best. I will miss watching McKay play, but life goes on. We need to get over this.

As a smaller slower guard especially on d, you better be able to shoot. He can't, 32% from 3 won't cut it
32% isn't bad. It's not great, but not bad. It can be compared to a big man shooting 50% in the paint. Also, not bad but not great.

McKay can contribute on a DI team somewhere, or be a star on a DII team. It just depends on how much desire he has to continue playing and at what level. The higher the level, the more commitment it is going to take. I just wish him and his family all the best. :coffee:

BTW, Garside was not the first, or even second, one to break the news about Cannon. Poor reporting by our "Weber Insider".

Total misses by Rahe on Stavrev and Darling. Should we really expect anything different with the next two Euros coming in? I stand by my belief that Rahe is an average recruiter. Maybe a little above average for the Big Sky, which isn't saying much. Way too many misses and transferring. Like a revolving door at Weber.

:wall: :wall: :wall:
Average recruiters DON'T get the likes of a Damian Lillard, OR Joel Bolomboy to a Big Sky team EVER!

Look around to EVERY program in the Nation, they all have misses and transfers every damn year. It's the current landscape of NCAA Hoops. It isn't a program or Coach specific problem. BYU, Utah, USU all have misses and transfers every year and so do the other 300+ D1 teams out there.
WSU has lost some good players due to transfer, but they have also gained some really good players due to transfer.
ALSO, I NEVER claimed Garside broke any story, he himself made that claim on his OWN Twitter..

I will grant you that Darling was a miss. However, Stavrev was a solid player who would have contributed if not for multiple injuries. He was not a miss at all. Let's face it, at our level, you have to take some chances on players. The sure bets don't usually land at mid majors. So a kid gets a chance and doesn't make it. So what? Better than no chance at all and you never know when you may find the next Damian Lillard.

What was the point with Darling? He didn't fit our need. He was the exact same player as Dallas. Was he like a really crappy insurance policy in case one of our bigs went down? Why not bring in a big bodied grad transfer that you could at least get 5 fouls out of?

The biggest contribution Darling made was when he scored 37 out of 50 in a Euro All Star dunk contest and Olds reported that he scored 37 in an all star game. Good stuff right there. And the fact that his dad told Tal he was full of crap.

Easy, dude. I never said you claimed anything about Garside breaking anything. My point wasn't directed at anyone, just pointing out that he didn't break a story that he should have been on top of. And saying I think Rahe is an average recruiter is a matter of opinion. I'm not looking for an argument.

Jared Stutzman has tweeted that he is transferring to Idaho State.

San Francisco to UVU to ISU

He should have been at ISU all along. These kids get their egos stroked in high school and think they are the second coming of Michael Jordan. When they find out they are not as good as they thought they were, it can be a rude awakening for them and their parents. I hope he does well at ISU.

It kills me to see Kiko leave like this. I really wish he had stayed healthy because I would have loved to see him play more

I agree, but the injuries were just too much. Some doctors were telling him to not play competitively again. I hope he stays and gets his degree from WSU. However, he may still hold out hope that he will be able to return to the court. Either way, he is a really great young man and I have a strong feeling that he will be successful in what ever he decides to do. :coffee:

Well, now we are down to 12 players versus a 13 scholarship limit. So, will Rahe prove how great a recruiter he is by bringing in a meaningful, contributing recruit in the coming year? Or will we get another player to redshirt and develop and who may never contribute. I still say we need a one year graduate transfer. And it is looking more and more everyday like that player should be a point guard who can start and be a major contributor.

By the way, Rahe is now challenging Kristkowiak at Utah in the personnel turnover arena.

Personally I think that Dallas will be "counseled out" next year and should have been this year. It will definitely happen if Vialen proves to be legit. If Rahe brings in another point who can contribute this upcoming year, Cody John will also be gone after the coming season. The only way he gets meaningful playing time this coming season is if Rahe fails to recruit a legit point guard.

I am wondering why Stavrev didn't tell Rahe that Darling wasn't Division 1 material since they played on the same team in England? Or maybe he did and Rahe was desperate and took him because he couldn't do better...
