If my wife came to me and asked for a "release" to shop around for someone better I'd say OK, make sure you find a replacement because that door only swings one way.
OK a better analogy would be if an employee asked if they could look around for a better job and asked for a letter of recommendation but would like to come back if they can't land a better job, would the employer sit around and wait to see if you came back? I think NOT.
The day Vernon accepted the release he should have known he is no longer a member of the Eastern Washington Eagles.
I wouldn't go that far. To be fair, when this thing first started (back in December), it was unclear whether or not Baldwin was even going to be the HC at Eastern in 2015. Remember, he was a strong candidate for the Oregon State job. Now that he has a new multi-year contract things are clearer, but that wasn't the case as recently as a couple of months ago. I don't blame Vernon for keeping all of his options open, although with Baldwin's new contract I hope he realizes that the best "fit" is right at home at EWU. The grass isn't always greener. Should he stay, he'll be the front runner for the Payton by a mile and he has a chance to be not only the Big Sky GOAT, but potentially shatter every record in 1AA. There's also the unfinished business of getting us back to Frisco. With an improved defense, I can see it happening.
There's just too many variables and unknowns for a transfer to make sense. He's already drawn the eye of the media - not because of this transfer stuff, but because of what he's done on the field. He will get his shot at the NFL and he doesn't need Oregon to do it.
