Whatever happens I would like to know what the conversation was when he asked for a release.
If my wife came to me and asked for a "release" to shop around for someone better I'd say OK, make sure you find a replacement because that door only swings one way.
OK a better analogy would be if an employee asked if they could look around for a better job and asked for a letter of recommendation but would like to come back if they can't land a better job, would the employer sit around and wait to see if you came back? I think NOT.
The day Vernon accepted the release he should have known he is no longer a member of the Eastern Washington Eagles.

I wouldn't go that far. To be fair, when this thing first started (back in December), it was unclear whether or not Baldwin was even going to be the HC at Eastern in 2015. Remember, he was a strong candidate for the Oregon State job. Now that he has a new multi-year contract things are clearer, but that wasn't the case as recently as a couple of months ago. I don't blame Vernon for keeping all of his options open, although with Baldwin's new contract I hope he realizes that the best "fit" is right at home at EWU. The grass isn't always greener. Should he stay, he'll be the front runner for the Payton by a mile and he has a chance to be not only the Big Sky GOAT, but potentially shatter every record in 1AA. There's also the unfinished business of getting us back to Frisco. With an improved defense, I can see it happening.

There's just too many variables and unknowns for a transfer to make sense. He's already drawn the eye of the media - not because of this transfer stuff, but because of what he's done on the field. He will get his shot at the NFL and he doesn't need Oregon to do it.

clawman,
I agree with you, but not utilizing the analogy of your wife :ohno: :ohno: ;) , the 2nd analogy is correct. Coach is supposed to have a meeting with him sometime today, I don't care about the outcome. This has been a Circus from day one, and he Vernon loves it.
Still what ever decision he makes, I wish him well. We were good before Vernon got here, we became better when Vernon came in, we will still be Damn Good w/o Vernon. Time for us to now wait for Spring Ball. thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: Go Eagles!!!!! Vic Wallace

EWU will be the favorite in the BSC in 2015 with or without VA. Have no issue with him going to Oregon.

EWU was a Top 10 program before Vernon and will be after.

I honestly think that if VA leaves EWU, then MSU would probably be the favorite in 2015 in the Big Sky due to having everyone on offense returning. EWU will be a contender for sure and would win the sky if MSU slips up, but VA is such a game changer for EWU. West is a very good quarter back if he were to take over, but not as good as VA IMO. Those games he filled in for Vernon last season were huge in getting him accustomed to playing as a starter.

I don't disagree with you MT. Prokup and their offense was lights out last year but until the cats can show up in November, my money is on EWU.

Sources: VA to announce that he is transferring to Oregon today. :ohno: I'm not surprised in the least, but it just sucks. :(

*Edit* Oregon is it. Just announced on twitter.

This isn't surprising, his head is so inflated there was no way he could make a rational decision. I find it hard to support Vernon going forward, I have never been an Oregon fan and Vernon certainly would not change that. I'm hoping our D will be up to the challenge but I do think they will be a pleasant surprise next year. It will be interesting this Spring, Jordan vs Reilly (maybe a newcomer) but they will have the best OL & Receivers in FCS to lean on and if the Rb's stay healthy they may be among the best as well.

Oregon it is! First off, I want to thank God for this amazing opportunity. I want to thank all of… http://instagram.com/p/y47EKexPFd/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Best of luck!

Have a hard time having any angst for a kid who was 4-0 vs Montana. Let that set in. 4-0 vs Montana.

EWU will be fine. Need to focus more on D.

Duck fan for 2015 after week 1.

Heard a rumor that if UO does take VA that they will still pay us for the first game, but change the date to a couple years later so EWU doesnt play VA... Wonder if its true or not.

NOT A CHANCE THAT WILL HAPPEN!

Also this is the reason I tell my kids to only root for a TEAM and not for individuals as they will break your heart by moving to a different team or worse doing illegal things. That is why I love the "12" concept for the Hawks!

buying out the game and rescheduling would be the ethical thing to do.

I agree. Oregon should buy out the game.

Buy out the game? Screw that....the other 89 kids at EWU live to play these kinds of high stakes games. You don't back down to even Oregon, and if you're a kid at EWU and don't have the balls to compete against the best of the best, I personally wouldn't want you. Yes, we may get smoked...but if you don't play the game, you don't even stand a chance. This is EWU football, one of the premier FCS programs in the country...VA or no VA, we'll show up and compete regardless of the opponent. We didn't get to where we are by playing pasties to pad our schedule.

EWU class of 2012 here. Love my Eagles but growing up in the Portland area (and along with the rest of my family) I grew up, and still am a huge Duck fan. These two teams mean a lot to me so this is so strange. The Ducks coaches obviously saw something in this kid to offer a one year scholarship, and it's not surprising. In my (football fan) mind of minds I would have rather seen VA stay and the Ducks develop one of their younger guys. But if I were in VA's shoes, I would have probably left as well. He earned this chance to lead one of the best FBS teams in the nation. BB is a QB guru and I think West or Hennessey could be special (I think Hennessey will be a great one in the future, barring another SMU transfer :D). This tugs at my heart strings in more ways than one, but Ive now become am even bigger VA fan. I will be at Autzen when they play, rocking EWU gear.
