Heard a rumor that if UO does take VA that they will still pay us for the first game, but change the date to a couple years later so EWU doesnt play VA... Wonder if its true or not.

buying out the game and rescheduling would be the ethical thing to do.

I agree. Oregon should buy out the game.

Buy out the game? Screw that....the other 89 kids at EWU live to play these kinds of high stakes games. You don't back down to even Oregon, and if you're a kid at EWU and don't have the balls to compete against the best of the best, I personally wouldn't want you. Yes, we may get smoked...but if you don't play the game, you don't even stand a chance. This is EWU football, one of the premier FCS programs in the country...VA or no VA, we'll show up and compete regardless of the opponent. We didn't get to where we are by playing pasties to pad our schedule.

Great point! I say bring 'em on. Not a chance they will buy out a game to the tune of $500k either way.

Sources: VA to announce that he is transferring to Oregon today. :ohno: I'm not surprised in the least, but it just sucks. :(

*Edit* Oregon is it. Just announced on twitter.

This isn't surprising, his head is so inflated there was no way he could make a rational decision. I find it hard to support Vernon going forward, I have never been an Oregon fan and Vernon certainly would not change that. I'm hoping our D will be up to the challenge but I do think they will be a pleasant surprise next year. It will be interesting this Spring, Jordan vs Reilly (maybe a newcomer) but they will have the best OL & Receivers in FCS to lean on and if the Rb's stay healthy they may be among the best as well.

These are my sentiments as well. I'm supposed to root for Oregon because they stole our QB away from us? NOT. A. CHANCE.

Totally classless move on the part of both Oregon and Mr. Adams.

Did you just almost put the words ethical and Oregon in the same sentence??? :geek:  :o

Oh really??? Speak for yourself. His teammates and coaches deserved better. If not for Beau Baldwin and the talent that he's had around him, he'd be playing on a 4-8 team at Portland State and would never have even had this opportunity. He should be calling up Kaufman, Herd, Edwards, Kupp, and every other great receiver he's had at EWU and personally thanking them for this opportunity, because he would never put up the kind of numbers he had at EWU without all those guys, and I don't think he will do it at Oregon, either.

I feel the same.... I will not root for Oregon or VA. I feel that Oregon has been classless in this whole persuit. Bad move in my opinion for VA. I hope he is sitting watching the game from the sidelines when we go compete with them in Autzen.

Why can't you just root for VA the player, not the team he plays for? He earned this. A chance to shine on a national stage with one of the most recognized college football teams in the nation? How could he pass this up? If he went to your team, would you be bitter? The young man did everything and more at EWU and he deserves a chance to shine at the FBS level. He earned it, and one should only be happy and wish him success. Best of luck to VA. This season will certainly test the EWU coaching staff but whoever is behind center for the Eagles has a bevy a playmakers to get the ball to. This next season will be fun to watch play out for both schools.

Oregon blows and always will, but you can't blame the kid for taking a shot. Any kid that is a competitor worth their weight in salt would have done the same thing. It's a cost of doing business at any collegiate level...FBS programs lose kids to the NFL early every year...it's really no different. Nobody on here rooted against Kaufman when he went early to the NFL.

With that said, the program and us fans need to CUT THE DAMN CORD now, and get ready to support this program for 2015.

So to paraphrase your thoughts: What we should be teaching young people these days is to screw everyone and anything around you who has helped you to get where you are. Look out for #1, right?

Sorry, but that's not the message that I want my kids to learn.

To put it bluntly, that's just being sour and bitter. When it comes down to brass tacks, people, no matter what they're doing whether it's football, forensics, or flipping burgers, must do what's best for themselves. I guarantee if you or your child were in this position, you would do the same. His goal is to get to the NFL and playing for Oregon provides a much better medium, does it not? He did everything he could here and VA thinks this is better for his future. In life, everyone has people help them on their way to achieving their dreams, and although EWU and the staff helped him, Oregon is by far a better place to be to achieve his NFL dreams. You're wrong on this one. And if you were in the same spot, you'd do the same.

It doesn't if he's not the starter.

I am on the other side of this one and have watched kids make bad decisions in the past. Moving from a small high school to a larger high school to have better success and be recruited by bigger colleges. It never works out, especially in the later years of their HS careers. It is the same situation......

If VA has success in college and gets a look in the pros, he will be a duck. He will claim the Ducks beause that is where he "gained success and noteriety". He is bailing on our program who was the one to give him the real shot. He is bailing on his teamates and coaches that he has been with for 3-4 years.

Glad to put this issue to rest. Good luck to VA, but I'm looking forward to the future, not the past. Anyone who thinks this team isn't going to be very good going forward is in for a rude awakening. Every year we have been upgrading our talent at virtually every position, and VA was just a part of that. Be mad at VA if you want, he chose his own path, but let's get behind the team, which is bigger than just one person. Go Eags

don't think it's really that fair to say every person would do the same thing if put in the same situation. everyone is different, but character plays a part. i am inclined to agree with some of the other folks on here. feel free to root for va at oregon all you want, but many of us wont be doing the same.

I'm really torn by this, because I do think he's a good kid with a good heart. I don't hate him for doing what he thinks is best for his future, but if we're going to be 100% honest here, it was kind of a dick move on his part all things considered. I'll appreciate the things he did here and genuinely hope that he has success in the future, but he's no longer an Eagle to me. He's just another dude on another team. :twocents:

A short time after Adams made the news public, Oregon announced he had signed a financial-aid agreement with the school.

http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/12301149/fcs-all-american-vernon-adams-transfer-oregon-ducks" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Now that Adams has announced he is no longer a member of the team is the university obligated to provide him scholarships funds for winter and springs terms or can they give that money to someone else? It seems to me that since he is not living up to his part of the agreement he ought to have to pay all of his expenses until he graduates. Oh wait, never mind that was a stupid question, Phil Knight/OU have probably already taken care of that pesky little detail.
