Havent looked at Oregon's schedule, but the first time Vernon can't go because of his issues it will be interesting to see how Oregon reacts, or when he is gimping around with cramps late in games...... Those things will not be easily overlooked on that big stage.

These bitter comments about Vernon are very disheartening.

The people who don't understand why he left probably didn't want to understand anyway.

Hey, I love the kid. I've met him; he's a great guy. He's charismatic and charming. He invited my kids to play catch with him. If he ever needs a job in the future, I'd be more than willing to give him an interview and hire him.

But I'm an Eastern-first kind of guy. He decided today that he didn't want to be part of our program. That sucks, mainly because Vernon was a good fit at Eastern and Eastern was a good fit for Vernon. Yet he chose to exploit what is essentially an NCAA a loophole to leave the program at his first opportunity.

I'll save my love for the kids that want to be part of this team and university... At this point, he's just a kid playing for Oregon.

It will be interesting to see if he has the speed and durability to last a season at Oregon running their offense. He's taking a big risk here and I don't think a smart one, but I hope he makes it.

Wow, it did not take long for the majority of you guys to go full E-Griz (which as you know is saying a lot) and throw this young man under the bus....then back it up.... and run over him a few more times. Pretty sad in my humble opinion.

I get why you are frustrated and even angry, but at the end of the day this is about a young man trying to set himself and his family up for the future. I'm not sure how anyone can hate a kid for doing that. He is a 5'11 inch (pushing it) QB star in the FCS, which normally gets you nowhere in the pros and maybe a shot at CFL. This is VA's chance to show he can play with the best of the best, week in and week out. That is how he'll earn a spot on a NFL roster. My gut tells me he will prove himself just fine and find a way to the League.

I'm sorry but without Oregon and the opportunity it provides, making it to the NFL was stil slim for VA, regardless of his numbers, based solely on size. Ask Armanti Edwards....one of the most prolific QBs in FCS. Guy put up 10,400 passing yards, rushed for over 4,000 yards, won two national titles, and won two Walter Payton awards. Now he is a no name receiver on an NFL roster, if he is still around. Oh, and he's 5'11 190 lbs. NFL teams want big QBs the likes of FCS stars like Romo, Flacco, McNair, and recently Garappolo. Those guys are all 6'2 to 6'6 and weigh 220-230 lbs.

I'll root for VA. It's great marketing for Big Sky football and FCS.

Whoa, whoa, whoa...you've gome too far, man. :flag:

Seriously, though. Going through the thread, I wouldn't say a majority of the folks have thrown him under the bus. Far from it.

Exactly my thoughts on this.

Not at all bitter about this decision. He didn't owe anything to us as fans and ultimately made the decision that he felt was the best for him and his family. Many of us would do the same.

Here lies the problem with that as well......don't need a repeat of this crap next year with him     :coffee:

Don't take a few comments on a message board as a representation of all Eastern fans. I can assure you that most are wishing him the best in his future endeavors.

I can see the new sales pitch now. "Get passed over by the Pac-12? No problem. Come and dominate the Big Sky for three years in our offense and you too could transfer to Oregon where you may or may not get to play".

I'd actually be willing to bet that Oregon's ability to handle his condition might have played a part in his decision. I've heard their facilities are on par with many current NFL franchises.

I have a bigger problem with the current rule than I do him using it. I don't think this is how it was originally intended to be used when it was created.

Some of you may remember that not so long ago we won a national championship with a young man playing QB who was a transfer from SMU. Funny how some on this thread are critical of certain rules when it doesn't benefit us, but completely fine with them when it does.

Not too long ago, you could count the members on this board with two hands. Many of you complained that our facilities were unable to attract prolific athletes, that we couldn't beat WSU to the front page of the Spokesman, and that the Griz would always be our bigger, more successful brother. Our attendance was too low, our fan base too thin, and our alumni support too little. Fast forward just a few years and see where we are. Vernon is a big reason we have more support, put fear into Pac12 opponents, and finally own the Griz. Criticize him all you want, but Vernon helped our program achieve a lot. He has earned the right to take his talent to a bigger stage. His absence will provide an opportunity for the next Eagle great to take us even higher. I want players and students at my University who will push themselves as far as they can. As Eagles, that's how we get things done. We don't lean on endowments, donors, or diplomas. We outwork you. Vernon pushed himself as far as he could in Cheney. I'm hopeful he will achieve even more in Eugene. Good luck Vernon, and good luck to every Eagle that wears the red and white. Forever.

Sorry respectfully disagree....I think that and this are two separate situations. One was a young man you came to us after a situation went south for him where he was at and he had two years left. This is you have a larger school coming in and swooping up a player to move up when he has only a year left and to make matters even more difficult to swallow is that we play them in the next season. We didn't play SMU the next year.

difference is, Bo Levi was recruited heavily by Baldwin while he was still in high school. It was a natural choice for him to come here when things went south. i think these are different situations.

well damnit, just when I had myself convinced that my rationale is correct, you have to go post something like this. I nominate this for post of the year.
