Not too long ago, you could count the members on this board with two hands. Many of you complained that our facilities were unable to attract prolific athletes, that we couldn't beat WSU to the front page of the Spokesman, and that the Griz would always be our bigger, more successful brother. Our attendance was too low, our fan base too thin, and our alumni support too little. Fast forward just a few years and see where we are. Vernon is a big reason we have more support, put fear into Pac12 opponents, and finally own the Griz. Criticize him all you want, but Vernon helped our program achieve a lot. He has earned the right to take his talent to a bigger stage. His absence will provide an opportunity for the next Eagle great to take us even higher. I want players and students at my University who will push themselves as far as they can. As Eagles, that's how we get things done. We don't lean on endowments, donors, or diplomas. We outwork you. Vernon pushed himself as far as he could in Cheney. I'm hopeful he will achieve even more in Eugene. Good luck Vernon, and good luck to every Eagle that wears the red and white. Forever.

Hell yeah!

Couldn't have said it better! I'll wish VA success in his future and eagerly await the next QB Coach B puts out there.

I agree with much of this, but let's not get carried away here. Vernon did not win a NC or a Payton. He had unfinished business. He has been terrific for Eagle football but his team mates, the athletic department, and most importantly the coaches who recruited him and provided him an opportunity to play as a rs freshman and greatly improved his understanding of the position and his skill set have been terrific for him as well.

Some of you may remember that not so long ago we won a national championship with a young man playing QB who was a transfer from SMU. Funny how some on this thread are critical of certain rules when it doesn't benefit us, but completely fine with them when it does.

I'll save my love for the kids that want to be part of this team and university... At this point, he's just a kid playing for Oregon.

Maybe VA will make the NFL and get crazy rich and donate back to EWU to complete the Gateway Project.
That's about the only way I'll be OK with this.

This was the very first thought I had about this whole thing  :thumb:

As a Duck fan I've been following this thread for the last couple weeks to see how y'all felt about VA and what kind of player and person we were getting. I am so glad I found this board for multiple reasons. I think it's really cool to see the positive reactions supporting Adams and believing in VA no matter what. I have definitely been encouraged to read that VA meant so much to the school and many of its fans.

I am more happy though to see so many petulent, crybaby children claiming Oregon did something wrong and abused some rules. It's always funny to see people believe that college football players take blood oathes to a school and owe their lives to fans. The only thing Adams owed to EWU was to earn his degree and he did that.

It is not foul at all for him to move up. He took advantage of a good rule that exists for good reasons. Reasons that include getting the opportunity of a lifetime at Oregon. This will be way better for him than staying at EWU whether he plays or not. If he can't compete against some college kids in Eugene, how can he expect to compete with NFL professionals?

Guys leave FBS teams to go to the FCS level all the time (Oregon lost two guys to FCS programs this offseason alone). It's about time someone took advantage of an opportunity and moved up a level. I supported Jeremiah Masoli in 2010 and rooted for Ole Miss that year after he used the rule to go there (and he did not leave Eugene under good terms at all). I believe in "Once a Duck, Always a Duck" whether gys leave as transfers, give up football, or get booted for legal trouble. You certainly don't have to like Oregon and you can hate on VA all you want but supporting his decision or hating on him shows your true colors as a fan as to whether you really care about the guys you root for or not.

Go Ducks.

P.S. We're UO. OU is Oklahoma. It's a fairly important distinction.

1,000 uniform designs. Zero National Championships. That won't change this year!

Yeah, seriously. Fuck Oregon. With or without Vernon Adams. What Oregon fans say is that "this is a great opportunity..." Yeah, well look at that through our eyes. Most of the people saying that nonsense are fans who have no real affiliation to the program other than as an alumni. Many of the people you will see on this board played ball at Eastern, worked for the program, or are prolific donors. Why would we support someone essentially telling us we aren't good enough for his services? This is especially true when he was a no-star QB with one other D-1 offer.

The worst part is that Vernon will likely throw for about 1,000 yards and run for another 500 if our defense looks like they did in 2014.

Clawman said it best he is just the Oregon QB now we are going to be just fine. The eagles will rally behind West or whomever wins the battle and we will win another Big Sky title. West would have been 4-0 as a starter if it weren't for a fluke play against NAU Vernon, Bo Levi, Padron did not do that in their 1st starts. This is going galvanize the team even more. The Ducks have tremendous athletes, but like the Husky game they had better be able to put up 50+ to win and with a QB who has been there 3 months facing his old coach who know every single weakness he has. Good luck VA your going to need it.

VA is a great FCS quarterback. In my opinion, VA will not be drafted by an NFL team and he will not make a 53 man NFL roster in 2016.

What graduate degree is VA pursuing at Oregon that is not available at EWU?

I do think it is a nice gesture by Oregon to install red turf so that VA can feel right at home.

A little surprised that Adams made the jump but I guess it is what it is. I'd wish him luck, but we play him week one, so basically I hope we kick his and Oregon's ass, i'll wish him luck after that, but right now he is the enemy...Maybe thats why i'm a little irked by this whole thing, he's going to a team we play in our first game, it just doesn't seem right.

As far as Adams making this decision and the reasoning behind it, I just don't understand it. Adams was projected as a mid round draft pick after next year, not sure what he can do to change that unless he has an outstanding year in Eugene, anything other than that and no way this helps him out. You are either NFL material or you are not and I think making this jump has a whole lot more risk than reward. I know a lot of people are saying that the FBS jump will prove more to the NFL scouts, but if he really was interested in showing he is NFL ready, why not go to a FBS school with a more pro style offense. The Ducks have a terrible history of their QBs in the NFL as of late and their offense doesn't exactly translate to NFL QB ready...

If Adams does well at Oregon, this won't bode well for the FCS schools who redshirt their freshman. It bascially turns the FCS into a farm system for FBS schools to snag kids their senior year. Leaving for the NFL is one thing, I'm all for it, but leaving your team, fans, and school for another school is totally different.

I do trust the QB's we have on our roster right now, it will be interesting to see who will lead us to the chipper this year. West and Hennessey will both be good ones. West came into a tough situation last year, and it will be much better this year. RH is the QB of the future and it will be interesting to see if he is ready this year. We have the best Head Coach and QB coach in the Big Sky so we will be fun, its not like we lost our receiving corp...

Adams was a special player for EWU, so thank you for 3 great years, but we were fine before him and we will be fine without him...

Don't anybody forget that their were 21 other players on the field and an excellent coaching staff that made the wins happen the last 3 years, it wasn't VA playing 1 on 11.

I do love the Grizzly fans thinking they have the Big Sky wrapped up because of this. Just keep thinking you have it won the last I checked you couldn't cover anybody or stop the run the two times we beat you last year. They are still going to be open and we will still run the ball. November 14th will be sweet when we wrap up our 4th straight big sky title in Missoula

Go Eags

For all of you talking about Jordan West and Reilly Hennessey don't write off Conner Richardson.

True that. He was 3 for three in passes last year with one touchdown :thumb:

I think Cal Poly will be in the hunt for the 2015 Big Sky Championship. Should be interesting.

Heard a rumor that if UO does take VA that they will still pay us for the first game, but change the date to a couple years later so EWU doesnt play VA... Wonder if its true or not.

I may be in the minority, but I hope so. The worst part of this whole ordeal for me is the thought of playing against VA. But that date could be tough to fill for both teams at this point in time.

+1

It's hard to root or wish VA well when we play him in week 1.

I completely understand why and how Vernon could be wooed by Oregon with there ridiculous facilities and the chance to play on a national stage every Saturday. Vernon has every right to make decisions about his football career and I wish him all the luck. EWU offered Vernon an opportunity to earn a degree while playing football, and he honored that agreement. Congratulations on becoming an EWU alumni, you have earned this success.

My feelings about the University of Oregon are completely different however, and I think how they went about recruiting a player from another school completely lacks class or ethics. I do not believe for a moment that Oregon gives one crap about Vernon Adams or his future, he is an experiment to them.

The only thing that I truly have a problem with in this thread is that people think this is somehow going to benefit EWU. It's not. IMO, this is a lose lose for us. If VA is successful, we run the risk of losing more of our most talented players. If he doesn't succeed, which is a very real possibility, then the FCS and EWU are still known as small schools that can't touch the big boys.

Oh, and I have a problem with a Duck fan coming on here running their mouth about ethics and loyalty. Seriously, GTFO and FTD! You can bury your head in the sand like most Whoregon fans, but you're still known as the best losers in the nation.

Til the day I die...GO EAGS!
