Weber State Recruiting

I thought we(the Ags) were only looking for 1 wing this spring. Bumpus has signed, and it looks like we may beat BYU for Rogers as well. If that's the case, I doubt very much if we offer Thornton. If we don't sign Rogers, that may change things. There isn't much info on Thornton, especially over the last year. I don't know who else is recruiting him. He did take an official to Logan, but the fact that he hasn't been mentioned as receiving much recruiting interest makes me wonder why.

It would be really nice to see a big LDS recruit not go to the Y. Rogers would look really good in Purple and White...but thats just me.

We always are looking for outside talent, it looks as if were looking at post players also.. two recruits on Weber State watch list are 6' 10" 225 lbs post Brenden Keane from Alameda California...Av 13 ppg and 7 rbs for 30 win team.... Now over the border again into Idaho 6'10" 235 Lbs Kevin Jergensmeier Minico High school, had two 6'10 players on last years Minico Idaho team, he will only get better with more playing time. we'll see how his summer goes... I know that this is early still for 2011, maybe not...go WILDCATS

"Stephen Rogers, the 6-foot-8 sharp-shooting small forward who became a hot recruiting target among Division I schools after his stellar season last year at Mesa Community College, has decided to play next season for the BYU Cougars."

I thought it was interesting to follow the ridiculous hype for this kid. We play both of these teams every year, so it is relevant. I think Bendall, Bumpus, Walker will end up being more impactful players for their team than Rogers, thats's if he ever gets off the bench the next couple of years.

For next year, there are 2 players on the roster that will not be on scholarship next year. From the sounds of it, Washington and Noble will both be back, but not using scholarships. BJ Porter will see some playing time, but will not be extended minutes. Bamforth, Tresnak, Fulton, and Davis will all see significant minutes. There is one D-1 transfer coming, but has NOT been released from the current school, and will not be until after their semester ends. The current coach is saying that he does not want the players' grades to go down because of transferring out.

Rayes Gallegos transferring from Nebraska
Remember Rayes Gallegos, the star guard from West Jordan High who helped lead the Jaguars to the state title in 2009?
It appears that Gallegos will return home to play his college basketball.
Gallegos signed with Nebraska prior to his senior season at West Jordan, and played in more than 30 games for the Cornhuskers this past season, averaging more than 10 minutes per game. He also averaged three points and 1.4 rebounds per game.
But Gallegos wants to play closer to his family, his legal guardian, Brad Blanchfield, confirmed on Monday, saying the guard plans on transferring to a school closer to home.
Gallegos lived with Blanchfield from the time he was in the eighth grade until the day he left for Nebraska.
Gallegos has asked for his official release from Nebraska, and will likely get it when the semester ends the first week of May. At that time, he can begin contacting schools about playing for them, and coaches can start contacting him.
Nebraska finished 15-18 overall and 2-14 in the Big 12. One of those losses was to BYU at the Las Vegas Invitational before Christmas.

If you ask me, they can have him. He averaged 8.6 points and 4.4 rebounds at E Utah. Not very impressive.

I watched him play the last two games at the juco Tournament, he is very athletic, but can't shoot outside at all. Really not a power forward, doesn't rebound well enough, not a small forward, can't shoot. so Oklahoma signed another player that overreached the level he should play at, like the 6'9" juco Reed that signed with Utah, that Weber recruited and were snubbed... so , good luck to him maybe he'll be more then a practice player..

Has anyone heard anything at all about the womens program? Did we sign anyone in the spring or not?

I know that we really need an athletic point guard and an agressive rebounder/defender. I would truely like to see CT have some success with that program. Caitlin Anderson is a great player, but she needs a little help at the point and on the wing. The young women we signed in the fall look to have some potential, we just simply need more tallent.

Weber State is always looking in Arizona for players, another player on their watch list is 6'3" 180 lbs guard Luke Roh From Scottsdale Arizona.. He lists Five schools involved.. Boise State , Colgate, Pepperdine, San Francisco, & Weber State...

It looks like Collin Woods has garnered interest from the following:Marquette,Memphis,Oregon St., Washington St.,Boise St.,Arizona,Notre Dame,Saint Mary's,Utah St.,Stanford,Georgia Tech and 20 other schools like Pepperdine,UCSB. 4 offers from Weber St.,CSU,Arizona St.,San Diego. He probably gets more attention this summer, do we really have a shot?

ESPN has TJ Taylor's only school considering as USC???

Regarding Luke Roh, the article said his High School coach "has been talking to Boise State and Weber State." I do not know that WSU is recruiting him.

Matt Korcheck, a big from AZ, who you guys were looking at last year before he signed with UTEP will be at Cochise JC in AZ next season. Stephen Thornton, who you were looking at, didn't qualify, and is sitting out at Utah State this year. Supposedly, Rahe is keeping an eye on Matt Sumsion, a 6'8" F from Springville HS. He's pretty raw, and developing, but good on the defensive end.

Sumsion seems like he has a lot of room to grow. He is somewhat similar to Panos.

Is Korcheck also a non-qualifier?

Collin Woods was offered by Fresno State today. He now has 5 offers:

Weber State
Colorado State
Arizona State
San Diego
Fresno State

I'm assuming more top tier teams will offer once things shake out.

What does everyone think as far as our chances? We're not the biggest dog in this fight, but we have 2 advantages: we have been talking to this kid for a long time now (much like how we got Lilllard to choose WSU) and we have his high school center and good friend Kyle Tresnak playing for us next year.

On that list there is only one school that really worries me...ASU.

Yes, Weber has been talking to Woods for a long time and yes, woods would acclimatized quickly having a former teammate playing with him, but Pac-10 and being close to home says a lot.

Weber is looking at some really talented players...yes, Woods would be an EXCELLENT get, but Jordan Baker and TJ Taylor would both be great pick ups as well. Also, none of us really know who the Wizard is looking at in the JC ranks. Maybe there is a player that suddenly emerges this summer that is better than them all, who the Wizard has been looking at. One never knows.
