The Grizzlies play 4 Division 1's on in Missoula: Pepperdine, Wisc-Milwaukee, San Jose State & Pepperdine. They also play 6 Div 1 road games and 3 neutral Div1 games. Nice pre-conference schedule. Whatever excuses are used for a schedule any less than Montana's are "BS". It would reflect more laziness than Weber being unable to get people to play them even at their home. I don't believe that Div 1 schools are any less afraid of playing Montana than they are Weber. No more excuses, only results.

Pepperdine added

Also aren't we allowed to play 31 games in a season? If you take out all the games without dates, that leaves Weber with 20 games, (I'm pretty sure the Alaskan Shootout counts as one game?) of course we will play USU and BYU and UVU, which leaves us with 23. With no other confirmations yet, Weber can still schedule 8 more non conference games

I count 25 games there, and yes we are allowed up to 31. Although, we usually don't get to that number. Why?, I don't know. We will likely have another road game or two and at least three more home games. I just hope those home games are not as poor as last years were. However, my expectations are quite low. :wall: :ohno:

So far from what I have seen and heard, our home schedule is complete dog sh#t. I really hope I am wrong here but the last few years schedules don't give me any hope that it will change. :stir:

The Alaska tournament only counts as one game doesn't it? So with 18 conf games, USU, BYU, UVU, Pepperdine and the Alaska tourney that gives us 23. I didn't add Denver in and wont until it has been confirmed. I'm sure there will be a guarantee money game as well, Probably Pac 12, and we all know there will be at least one Lower Division game.

I was counting Denver and West Coast Baptist. If they add one more like WCB the home schedule will be crappy. If they add two more of them, I agree it would be total dog crap. :wall:

I hate to admit this, but I'm already embarrassed about our schedule and it hasn't even come out yet. I'm hopeful that I'm wrong, but...

Does it come out by Friday? Last year it was the 22nd and that was the latest I remember it being released in recent memory. What is weird about this year, we are not hearing any rumblings of us being on teams schedules that have released already.

Almost anything will be an improvement over last year's home schedule. It could be as bad or a little better, but worse would take some real effort. The effort it would take to make it worse, if applied to make it better, would make us all happy. Will we be happy? Will we be upset? Will anybody in athletic administration care about it at all? Does our coaching staff care about the fans, attendance, team preparation, and a better SOS as much as they do their win/lose record?

Hopefully we have answers soon. :wall: :shocking:

Each day without an official announcement makes me more and more worried.

Why? It can only be as bad as last season, it cannot be worse. And Olds can't understand why I'm not willing to throw my money at that crap anymore.

I do understand why someone would choose to not purchase season tickets for schedules like last years. The thing I don't get is why those same people think their not going to games will cause WSU to get a better home schedule, or somehow improve the program. It probably is having the opposite effect. :twocents:

I would think that common sense would tell anyone in charge that if the product they're selling is experiencing reduced buying, or in this case, attendance is declining, something is wrong & they need to figure it out!

By customers patronizing something, the person in charge could continue merrily along, thinking everything is fine & dandy.

Do you have any "inside" status with the AD people, Oldrunner? If you do, as sometimes it appears, then why don't you communicate it to them, other than just chastising some of us fans who don't throw our money at it, like you do in buying umpteen season tickets, and then just joining in & being a griper about the schedule on this forum? :wall: My :twocents:!

I have made my feelings known. I have not had the responses I would like. I will continue to express my feelings about this and a variety of other marketing issues. My feelings are that scheduling should not be in the hands of the coaches. I think that most coaches would like to get rid of that responsibility, as long as they had some input on the goals, and some limited veto power in the process. I'm sure that there are programs willing to do HnH contracts, but Randy does not want to play at their place or their is a problem with a guarantee. getting more people involved in the process might pressure Randy into taking some of these HnH offers in the future. I'm not a proponent of simply going on the road for a bunch of money games and never having a good home schedule. You may have to play at several of the Denvers of the world in order to get a better home schedule. It means that you stand the real risk of losing these games if you are not playing well. It is a high risk situation, but it is less of a risk if your fan base doesn't fry your butt for dropping some of those games. Sort of like our fan base did last year. :wall:

Hey, any Coach who is not willing to play a game that he could possibly lose, and take a little heat if he actually loses, should get out of the kitchen. Besides, I don't think there were many in the Weber fan base who was calling for Randy's job last year when he lost several that he really shouldn't have. As it is, Randy is designing a schedule where the kitchen is well air conditioned. Can't blame him for wanting to make winning as plentiful as possible. Its human nature to want to play the games you are favored to win over those you are not! The very reason that coaches shouldn't be making the schedule or be given the power to veto any game they don't like. In my opinion, if the school administration isn't working to improve the national stature of the team, but to just play as a big fish in an unrecognizable pond, then it is ok to let coaches do the scheduling. It seems that Weber falls more closely into the "unrecognizable pond" category than in the "if you can't take the heat" category. Lets hope that they prove me wrong with the soon to be announced schedule for this next season. I respect and am a fan of the "Gonzaga's" of the basketball world who actually seeks out the heat of the kitchen. It is hard to have that same respect for Randy because of the padding of his record by scheduling of schools so unrecognizable that they don't seem to be playing in any pond at all.

Let's all agree on one thing...last years HOME schedule was lacking in effort. The road and neutral court games were fine. Playing SDSU was a great measure for our program, and I for one felt that the preseason schedule, sans three games at the Dee, was fairly challenging for the Cats.

YES, I want to see better games played in the Dee. But, I also want to see athletics actually try to make the Dee an amazing college game atmosphere. Doing work to improve the game day experience and building a fan base. They need to really try to fill the Dee and build a student following. This takes time, effort, and work. Something the marketing guy doesn't understand or do. It takes a plan and the execution of that plan months in advance not the day of, to really get the Dee rocking. I want to have a reason to get excited for having home games on TV so that the rest of the state can see what they are missing by not coming to Ogden to watch the Wildcats. Not to highlight Antelope Valley College and an empty DEE EVENTS CENTER. I can't believe Just Enough Jerry thought that was alright. Lets put crap games against NAIA BEATS on TV and showcase an empty stadium. THATS THE WAY TO BUILD A FAN BASE!! That'ta boy Jerry!! IS THERE A PLAN FOR THIS SEASON YET? I highly doubt it.

The problem wasn't who we played on the road, but who we played at home and even when we did play a highly competitive team at home, athletics ho-hummed it, THEY DID JUST ENOUGH, and didn't try to get butts in the seats or drive any sort of excitement. Maybe Randy doesn't want to bring in a top notch team to play them in a half empty Dee, where there are more cheer leaders than students students, no pep band, some random slob wandering around with a microphone during time-outs and the marketing director getting mad about the distribution of cupcakes. The problem is athletics getting the word out and making the experience memorable.
