New Coaching Candidates

I love this board!
We (as a body) are positively cautiously optimistic. I guess that makes us fans.
A win here......and there are relatively insignificant in the larger picture.....the picture that we all want to see......the picture of our Bears as a respected program.....respect builds success.....right? Or does success build respect?
It doesn't matter.....nothing matters unless we have a well thought out plan implemented ACROSS THE BOARD!
This football coaching staff has not capitalized on hot prospects, opportune moments, or a supportive alumni base. The head coach is simply not capable.
Let's be honest about the big picture....not quibble about this player, that pass or tackle.......that's not where the problem lies. The truth is....the problem is exacerbated as a result of the lies!

Um. What? Where are you getting that they haven't capitalized on hot prospects? Give me five examples. On a team of 80+, that shouldn't be too hard. Because from where I'm sitting, some of the players Collins has been signing recently have been pretty darn good.

UNCBroadcaster = excuse machine

I realize you are a paid shill but this program is dog shit and has been for a decade so please stop insulting our intelligence.

When home loses to RMAC teams are justified and homecoming loses to S. Utah are moral vistories it's time to clean house.

Oh wait, we can't clean house we haven't had an AD for 4 months but good news they just posted a listing on Monster.com last thursday so things are turning up!

Losing culture!

Listen, I agree with you in saying that the program has seen better days. But part of that recovery is loyal fans who don't call for the coach's head every time a false start is called. The search for an AD is underway, and they hope to have one in place soon. I'm also not insulting your intelligence. When someone called out the offensive line for bad play, I meant it when I said that was intelligent. Also, give me examples of missed hot recruits, and we can have a civilized, intelligent discussion about it. But what gets me is the so-called "supportive alumni base" calling out Collins for things like a player getting hit with a punt, resulting in a turnover. How in the world is that a coaching problem? There have been very few questionable coaching calls this season, and certainly none that have cost UNC a game. That has all happened on the field. Coaches can coach until they're blue in the face, but until the players take it upon themselves to go out and execute (like on 3rd down - going 5-15 is not a coaching problem), this team won't put up points, nor will it win games. Shill or not, it's still important to see this program for what it is - one that is going through a very rough time, but is trying to rebound with the help of a head coach who knows the program inside and out. The last thing they need right now is its fans calling for a mutiny.

I hear you bro but like 10+ years of losing and losing big... like what, averaging like 1 or 2 wins a year for a DECADE.

This isn't like Auburn being down for 4 years after winning a national championship.

This is being a laughing stock for a decade. Thinks about that, 10 years of every opponent lauging about you on their schedule.

It's hard to be all sunshine and lolipops.

The current coach is in his third year and they can't even convert a 25 yard field goal that is high school JV shit. That and what, 8 to 12 penalties a game, that is unacceptable.

I'm done with the sugar coating...

My only hope is they get a legit AD in here with some onions and he/she cleans f***ing house. But I'm not holding my breath...

I would have to say this fan base is pretty short on patience with this football program. And I don' know how some can constantly blame the players when sooner or later the head coach has to look in the mirror and ask " what am I doing wrong "? I say the buck stops here at the front desk of the head coach ! It's all about leadership and bringing people together and it starts with hiring a young up and coming enthusiastic AD who will grab the bull by the horns and bring back this soured fan base with a new attitude !

I respect what UNCbroadcaster is saying but it holds no water. I'm afraid you need to take off the blue and gold colored glasses.

Everyone on here wants the Bears to be successful but we get tired of watching a subpar product each week and then have to listen to Collins and his excuses. Combine those two factors with the lack of character this coaching staff has and I think it's time for a change.

This fan base will sit through another sub .500 year again this year. We'll listen to UNCbroadcaster and Collins tell us why next year will be better and try to explain the numerous bad losses (Lobato was injured etc...). The bottom line is they aren't winning. Someone needs to be accountable for this program and their results. Why not the HEAD COACH?

My guess is Collins will be around through the end of next year. Hopefully by then the new AD has seen enough and has a new plan moving forward.

Ben - I see what you're saying, but I would say most of us on this board have been Bear fans for a very long time. Myself included. I'm 3rd generation UNC, and I attended football games at Jackson Field and basketball games at Butler Hancock as a kid.

You probably haven't been around UNC long enough to witness some truly great athletics. That's fine, but don't knock the fans who want and expect better. Most of us had high hopes after winning 5 of 6 games at the end of last season. Things finally looked like they were getting better. Then wham! We lose to an RMAC team. We have a coach that has been here for 3 seasons, and most of these players are his guys. Needless to say it was against a team that we had NEVER lost to. I know it's only one game, but some games are bigger than others. That game was like a dagger in the momentum we had from last season. Collins seemed to just shrug it off like no big deal. BS! It was a big deal.

As mentioned, most of us true Bluers want a return to glory days, most of the players and coaches will forget about UNC when they're finished. Hell, look at Will Jefferson's twitter account. All that dude can do is complain about living in Colorado and every damn day he's waiting to get back to California. You think his heart is at UNC? Nope. Can you tell me why myself and others are paying for this guys scholarship???? What a fucking joke.

UNCBroadcaster is just doing his job to keep his job. His radio station is perpetually on the edge of extinction and desperately needs the ad dollars from UNC football and sports, so he has got to homer for Collins so they can keep that "UNC Coaches Show" that no one listens to. How difficult it must be to week in and week out to make excuses for the coaching staff and come up with creative ways to blame the players for loss after loss. You have to admire his gall in blaming 19 and 20 year old kids for the obvious failings of the coaching staff. I am sure those players who kill themsleves in the classroom, at practice, and on the field appreciate UNCBroadcaster telling them how much they suck while he sits pouting about our posts to the UNC Bears fans board. He typed this into his Twitter account this morning: "How do we end the day? Getting called an 'excuse machine' & 'paid shill.' Oh well. Just gotta kill 'em with logic. That's how it goes, yeah?" How sad.

So, we may win a game here and there but the inevitable losing season is a lock now. Idaho State is so desperately bad we might accidentally beat them. After that, the other doomed doormats of the Big Sky until we get drilled by Montana State and Northern Arizona to finish 3-8 or so. And then, the rationalizations by UNCBroadcaster and Collins will begin and nothing will happen until next year's disaster....

You're right. I haven't been around UNC as long as many on this board, and haven't seen the glory days, I have, however, never seen a winning season here, and this is my fifth year in Greeley. I understand with pain that alums and fans are going through, believe me. Being around the players also helps me understand how hard this is on them, too. I was just as excited for this season, thinking that a 7 or 8 win season was easily attainable. There's plenty of blame to go around, but it's way too soon to say another coaching change is needed, because if that happens, you're looking at at least two years of continued frustration while current players adjust to a new system, and the new coach starts getting his recruits in. And all that would be without the guarantee of any success. Just because a coach has success at one place doesn't mean he'll change everything at the drop of a hat in another place - just look at Chip Kelly in Philadelphia. I am confused though, as to where people are thinking that Collins is justifying a loss to a team that, on paper, should have been an easy win. I've talked to him after every game for the past three seasons including this one, and not once has he thrown a player or assistant coach under the bus. He's always taken the blame on his shoulders, even when it wasn't his fault. That's one of the marks of a good head coach. If spirits would start lifting, fans would turn out at Nottingham like they did yesterday (and I'm not calling you or the board out on that - that's on the students, mostly), and if the team as a whole would start believing again that they can and should win, that would go a long way toward building the program back to where it was in the glory days.

yoooo Miguel out here hatin' on everything UNC/Greeley related. Hopefully after this latest, we'll get a diss on the 8th Avenue streetlight system. After that, maybe he'll put the menu selection at University Dining Halls on blast. When that's over, I want some lines on how 16th Street needs a face-lift. And don't forget how the interior of Ross Hall looks like a damn hospital and it's impossible to know where you're going in there.

Miguel is just a fountain of hostility on here. As a wise man once said, "Haterz gonna Hate".

P.S. Feel free to release the hounds on the officiating in the University Intramural Sports Program. Damn guys cost me a semifinal berth in Men's Basketball and my life hasn't been the same since.

Itsabearsthang- sorry if I insulted your best buddy UNCBroadcaster, but if no one is going to stick up for the players against his regular attacks I am...

I am not a hater, but a truthteller. I live in reality and speak out against injustice when I see it. In all things, there are good and bad.... Greeley is no exception...

Here are some things what I like about Greeley:

The first snowfall on the mountains in fall
Jaime White prowling the sidelines at a basketball game
Tom Norton wearing his hat on tv
Lyndsey Oates when she smiles
Summer theatre productions at UNC
The rodeo coming to town
Riding a bike on the Poudre trail
Bear student athletes graduating from college

Here's what I dislike about Greeley:

Cows forced to stand in their own excrement until they are slaughtered
Fracking being portrayed as an answer to just about everything
The racism behind the so-called immigration debate
Meat packing lawyers being named university presidents
Conservative talk radio pushing education cuts and demonizing teachers
The destruction of what was once a proud UNC football tradition...

Ah, so now I'm personally attacking them. Good to know. I'll be sure to mention that next time I see them, and say that attacking friends of mine is my newest habit. Come on, man. I said that they weren't executing like they've shown they can. I'm not calling out their work ethic or them as people...

"Itsabearsthang"

I mean, do I really even need to say anything, you gotta be a coach on that staff! If not, please hook your trailer to the Collins crew train on the way out of town and don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. Homie. As an honest man once said, "losers gonna loose and then blame someone else".

I agree with just about everything about your post, especially the very last part. However, owning livestock in Greeley is illegal and has been for a while.

Anyways...going back to the destruction of UNC football. I was reminiscing as I was driving back to from the game yesterday and thinking about how what Mike Rice used to call "Nottingham magic" back in the day when shitty mental things happened to other teams, not UNC. UNC would almost always come away in close, exciting games with "magic." That's the way many of us on this board remember UNC football. It's a shame what's happening.

Also...Ben if you're friends with Will Jefferson Jr. Ask if he's so not happy at UNC, why did he come here? Also, since they'll be in Cali on Saturday ask if he'll just stay there instead of come back on the plane. While you're at it ask him if I can have a portion of his scholarship back that I help pay for. I would and wouldn't be afraid of him but I don't have a twitter account any longer. Seriously...just ask him. I don't think he deserves to wear that uniform. The sense of entitlement some of these players have is ridicules.

Miguel, 2 points:
1) UNC is break even or worse in terms of ad revenue for the station. A similar situation exists in many cases across the country, you just don't realize it. It's called "community service" on top of the revenue.
2) The school is just as aware as anyone that without KFKA's involvement, there's likely no radio broadcasts, given the current climate in the radio business.

Troy- If anyone is doing community service, it is you since you have been miserably sitting in stadiums all over the Big Sky Conference for way too many years of what your broadcast partner euphemistically refers to as "rough times"....

I'm kinda surprised at some of the stuff you say on this board even though you're a football analyst. To lay 100% of the losses on the players is something I don't agree with. I do understand that the players do have to execute, I get that, but why do you think they continually fail to execute? Maybe its because they don't have a game plan to execute?? Does this staff have a game plan before every game? Or do they just run the same plays over and over, thinking oh this will be the week we have success. Do they make half time adjustments? The only reason why they lost to csu-pueblo is because they were out coached. Giving up two touchdowns with a little over a minute to go before halftime is bad coaching.

I've coached before, and we went up against teams that had better talent, but the reason why they sucked or didn't do well was because they didn't have a coach teaching them the fundamentals to play the game. Had kids constantly out of position. I've followed UNC for a long time, attended back in 2006, when they were transitioning to FCS. Back then it was a talent issue, and coaching, but more a talent issue. Now I don't think its a talent issue anymore.

I completely agree with Bears fan on this one. The players weren't the ones who called one running and two pass plays with a little over a minute to go before half time last week. Thus leaving Southern Utah plenty of time and a time out to march down the field and score. That turned out to be the difference in that game .

I had to chuckle after reading Mustari 's article earlier this week in the Tribune. Mustari made it very clear that he's been drinking the Collins Kool Aid. For him to come out and support this coaching staff the way he did really makes me question if he's watched any of the Bears games the last year and a half.

Now I can look forward to Collins' excuses every week and "homer" newspaper articles supporting him.
