New Coaching Candidates

I talked to a few parents of players during last weekends home game. They don't think Collins will get a contract extension (and they seemed pleased about it). I think the only way he gets one is that we have no A.D. in place.

According to his employment agreement, his contract runs through 02/28/2015. It also states, "On or before November 30. 2014, the University will notify Collins in writing whether it intends to enter into negotiations with Collins for a new or renewal employment agreement for his employment on and after March 1, 2015."

The University is not in a financial position to terminate Collins' contract prior to 02/28/2015. So, it appears the suffering will continue well into 2015.

I thought he only had a 3 year contract. The players hate this coach. I'm sure they're not happy.

I thought the same thing until I found his contract:

Said it before.....

Collins is not qualified.
Boyer is not qualified.
Half his staff is not qualified.
Hire a qualified coach who has proven he can WIN!
Hire a coach who has a REAL system
Don't care if it's DII, DIII, JC or High School..... Winners are Winners
Losers are losers
Winners have a system.
Heck....hire Kiffin!

I apologize for the delay in my reply. UNC Broadcaster, you made me think about things.....a lot of things. I went back & read my previous posts on a number of subjects,, then some of the posts (I would ask you to do the same.....a bit of perspective). As the talk of a new staff ramps up on this board, I don't believe that anyone is fantasizing about "the glory days". I believe that we tend to be loyal fans (Bears to the Bone), and only desire quality. Quality can be assessed in a number of ways: win/loss record, graduation rate, community involvement and leadership, level of donations, etc.. I don't care for throwing blame in a particular direction......it accomplishes nothing but negatives. Please don't get me wrong, I wouldn't dream of throwing this staff under the same bus as the head coach uses to assert blame on players. Again, please take time to read through some previous posts. I am simply convinced that E. Collins is not the "savior" of this program, college, or the great state of Colorado. I believe that by waiting for other candidates to drop out of contention for this position, he became the defacto head coach. Questions posted regarding "who would be better" or "can we afford a more effective coach" have not been my focus. I have never been big on second guessing coaching decisions, rather coaching quality. As I have stated a number of times, coach Collins has a slightly better record than Downing (maybe more than slightly), however the players (as far as I could tell) genuinely liked Downing.....I don't think I ever heard him throw players under the bus like this guy.....even when we went what seemed like eons without a win, his words were generally upbeat (which is another issue completely). I don't know who would be a better fit for us......I only know that I have seen and heard enough from this guy to believe that he is not right. One of my favorite interviews with coach Collins was before the CSU game a couple of years ago. I became sick to my stomach when the was talking toTroy *(I think) when he began to discuss the importance of playing mind games with the players......Yes, all coaches do in their own way, but this guy spoke as if he were a master psychologist, and lead us to yet another ass kicking. Again, please read past posts to get a feel where I (we) stand. And whoever said that we are creating a crappy environment to foster and support coaches.....I disagree. I believe that the contributors on this board aren't as panicked as it may seem about wins & losses, rather we are dissatisfied with the manner in which they occur. Again.....QUALITY!

So Collins is probably sticking around after this season, but should he shake up his staff? Get rid of any of the coordinators? How about position coaches? The offensive line is pathetic so I wonder if he gets rid of coach Smith. Think about it - the Bungals had 4 sacks and they're not good defense.

Well, if you can't completely fix the problem (Collins) which would also include his staff than at least start with the OC, DC and RB Coach. The OC is just simply not very good at game planning, play calling or using the correct personnel to attack defenses. The DC doesn't make pre-game or mid-game adjustments and the RB Coach is a cancer to the program spending all of his time either kissing Collins ass, chasing co-eds around campus or exerting his little man's complex on the players by constantly insulting them (his position and others) in order to make himself feel good in some way rather than coaching them up.

Is your son a running back? You seem to have alot of opinions about the RB coach.

Player parent....it sounds like you know of what you speak. I think too often people are afraid to offer candid opinion.....
The underlying suspicion is generally that folks have an ax to grind, and that isn't always accurate. Would it safe to generalize your statements? Or is it just the running back coach?
Greeley isn't a big town.....the actions of both players and coaches are hardly a secret.
I have to continue to believe that players are doing their best to perform, and coaches are doing their best. I simply believe that this entire staff is in over their heads. To single out a coach here or there seems like an effort to put out a fire one spark at a time.

What in the world is your point mtnbear? Would you pick a side and get to it already or are you gonna ride that fence for the rest of your life because it fits the crack between your legs perfectly!?

As for you mccandy, what kinda of ignorant question is that? Is your kid a running back? How bout plrparent answers that as soon as you tell us what your affiliation is with this suspect staff. I tell you what I cannot wait to see you clowns run out of town so fast once we get this new AD. They all suck clear down to the dinky one wearing his shape ups to add a couple inches.

I saw a report on fox sports talking about the situation at Grambling which is the same conference these jackasses came from and all it did was remind me how misguided we were in how we chose a head coach so far from the direction we thought we'd be going once a change was made. Thank you for doing everyone a favor and proving my point week in and week out. Beardown!

My apologies.. .let me clarify:
Player parent it is not my intent to put you in a tough spot.
My position is, and has been that coach Collins is not, and never has been a capable head coach, leader, or representative of this program.
By hiring him in the fashion we did, both he and our university took zero steps forward.
The lack of character has damaged our school, athletes and reputation for some time to come.
Is that clear enough?

I don't have any specific agenda to get rid of the RB Coach, in fact I clearly named 3 coaches in my post as ones who need to be dismissed and provided my reasons for naming each of them. It should be noted that the ultimate target of the problem is the HC! He needs to go along with the entire staff. After all, he is responsible for selecting the coaching staff. My post naming just those three was under the assumption that the program does not have enough financial resources to get rid of him by buying out the reminder of his contract.

The items of fact I listed for the RB Coach are things that "contribute" to the problem of coach/player chemistry and the overall program aura. There are several other internal coaching issues that also contribute including one of which I did not mention b/c it involved the DC and I had already listed him as one that needs to go. That issue was a fist fight between coaches.

At the end of the day, Collins is the problem! He is not capable of leading a program and has not illustrated that he is on any team he has lead. One mark of a great leader (Coach or CEO of a company) is the ability to select a staff that compliments your abilities. Another is taking accountability for your mistakes than finding a solution. Collins' list of abilities at leading a program is small and instead of finding solutions he is quick to give excuses and point fingers and it started with Lindenwood and comments such as; players don't buy in; when I get my players in here things will be better; coaching is playing mind games with the players; and so on and so on...)

So, don't misunderstand my point with thinking I have an agenda against the RB Coach. Make no mistake, I have an issue with this entire coaching staff and it starts with the head of the program!

These players (including the ones Collins has brought in) will not play for him because he is incapable of motivating them and leading them; he is only good and tearing them down and pointing fingers at others for his ineptitude.

Just look at the body language of the players across the board and let the actions of the majority guide your observation. Today's game is a great example!

Collins should use his connections to get a position coaching job elsewhere and step down! Don't leave it up to an incoming AD; be a true alum that cares for his school and acknowledge you are not the right person for the job. After he completely turns this program inside out others may not even want him as an assistant!

I'm sorry but we don't have the money to pay better assistants. It's obvious your son hates Collins. What's his name? Do the other players have the same attitude?

I'm sorry Beardown, I don't understand the correlation. There are better assistants at some of the local high schools that make even less than these guys...You could have an assistant that makes more than $100K and that would not mean he is capable...it' the "selection" of the assistants more than it is the pay!

Who is your son? Please don't hide behind a keyboard. I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with you.

I'm not speaking for my son, I'm speaking from my perspective. My son's name is completely irrelevant to the topic of this thread or the subject of my posts. I'm not hiding behind a key board, if you want to meet with me to discuss points of view that can be arranged. The better question is why are you so concerned with who my son is?

Ok - PM me. I'll probably be at the Montana State game. Perhaps before hand.

Your request is acceptable but I'm sorry not to be in tuned with what "PM me" means? Please explain and while you're at it please answer my question as to why are you so concerned with who my son is...
