Hawaii vs UNC

Obviously the Bears are overmatched, and I would assume they will be beat this weekend. However, my first game as a bear was a 70 somethin to very little win over Adams State many years ago as a Bear. That was a long time ago and we have come a long way. This is a big game as far as getting us on the map and us showing up against a team the quality of Hawaii this year is impressive. It is a D-1A team that is damn good, and could be the best team in their history. Congrats to the Bears for making it this far. We have come a long way and I'm proud to be a UNC Bear. This is a trap game, we won't win, but we could give them a game, with all the hype, it could be something. This is probably the THIRD biggest game in history (behind the 2 NC games) and we will make the most of it. GO BEARS!

Hello. Another Warrior fan here. Thought I'd drop a line.

Anyways Warrior fans are more anxious then ever with fall camp starting next week...

Was hoping to learn more about the Bears through this forum. I understand though that you guys recently made the transition from DivII to FCS. But that's all I know about UNC.

Welcome to the board.

You're right in that we have recently completed a transition from D2 to FCS. Here's UNC in a nutshell. We've got a very good tradition in 2 sports. Football (back to back D2 national championships in '96,'97) and baseball (something like 9 time college worldseries apperances). We've sucked the past few years in football. We have a 2nd year coach named Scott Downing who spent 20+ years as an assistant coach at Purdue, Wyoming and most recently Nebraska where he was the recruiting coordinator. Here's a bio:http://uncbears.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/sched/ncol-m-footbl-sched.html

As for academics, UNC is strong in producing top teachers, business people, nurses and musicians. We have a lot of students from Hawaii come to UNC to study these programs and experience the mainland. We've always been known as the little brother to CU and Colorado State but we hold our own in sports and academics. My wife and I are both UNC grads and couldn't imagine having gone anywhere else. It's a great school!

Yeah about the Hawaii pipeline thing. I believe a Saint Louis LB joined the Bears but has since transfered to New Mexico State.

Also Thanks for the information on your program.

Anyways I'll try and answer any questions you guys got on this year's Warrior squad. As far as I know, the players are not looking ahead to LaTech, but are focused on UNC.

I've got three goals for the Bears against Hawaii. They are, in order:

1. No Serious Injuries

2. Hold Hawaii Under 80

3. Score a Touchdown

Hawaii will enter the season #24 on the coaches poll:

I am with you on this one. I think all three are likely.

I would like to offer a fourth, put the check in the bank.

Hawaii really going out there to schedule the scary non-conference games, working hard for the rankings I see.

Tired tirade from the UH posters here. Get a life and a season. I been to a Hawaii/Wyoming game where it was 52-0 Wyoming at halftime.

Great you have a coach and a program now, what is in for next year's pre-season lineup, Panhandle State??

Oh, and thanks for the monetary support, we need it!!

Hawaii has beaten schools like Michigan State, Arizona State, Purdue, Alabama, what do you have? A 1-10 record at the FCS level? Hawaii has an easy schedule because nobody wanted to play them, nobody wanted to get blown out of the sky. Looking at their schedule next year they play @Florida, @Oregon State, and home against Washington State, so your claim has no support behind it. And Wyoming? The team that has had 1 winning season in the past decade? Give me a break. Come back to the present.

Until N. Colorado actually has a winning record or even beat 1 BCS school in the next century.
Don't even talk about our easy schedule because I know if you guys had it you wouldn't win 1 game..Hell you guys wouldn't even get close.

Weak smack. You must enjoy stealing candy from babies as well.

Why exactly would I want to use my best Smack against a team that I allready know were gonna school.

By the way if you guys are D1 then why are you in the Big sky.
Last time I checked it was a D2 conference.

Um, we're Division I now, thanks. We played D2 for a long time and were quite successful. We even won national championships in 1996 & 1997. If I'm not mistaken, and please correct me if I am, Hawaii has never won a national title at any level in football. In my mind, that makes it UNC 2-Hawaii 0. Now, on the 1st, you'll probably beat us by some ridiculous score like 63-10, and I've accepted that, but you can't take our trophies.

U know what's so sad is the your talking about D2 football. :D .
Even when UH was a D2 school we were an independent and played BCS teams unlike you guys who played teams like north dakota tech or something like that.

See my post above, Hawaii was never D2, they were I-AA
